This is my monochrome version. After thinking about the color version, I came to the conclusion that the color was getting in the way of shape and light.

I agree with you Rand I often feel that colour is distracting from form and shape and composition - people will look and say words to the effect of 'Oh that is so nice' but have not actually 'seen' the basic image just the 'colour sheen' or surface. Your image shows 'the basic image' so well in all it's clarity and substance without that 'distraction' ... at least to my eye.
