p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Super-teles: DSLR vs MILC

I'm posting in the Canon forum, but this applies to Nikon as well. What differences would there be in the design of a 400 - 600mm lens for MILC as opposed to a DSLR? The Canon 600 IS III is lighter than the II model, but does it also focus differently? Will future super-teles focus more accurately than a Nikon 500FL or the above mentioned Canon 600 IS II? Will image stabilization be tweaked to work in conjunction with IBIS?

Tweaks to the IS implementation to ensure they play well with IBIS (which could show up on a 5DV as well) and optimization of the focusing system for DPAF, and the latter is also needed for modern DSLR's.

There's really not much MILC-specific optimizations possible with super-tele's. The real gains are in much shorter lenses where the mount register and mirror clearance limits design.

I guess it depends on if you believe what Sony is selling you with their claims of direct linear dual motors allowing them to make faster micro focus adjustments with a fast readout sensor like the A9 series. I think they claim that without these new motors they wouldn't be able to support 20FPS and 60AF reads/s while adjusting the focus accurately and fast enough.

I would think IS could be tweaked to work better with IBIS. If rumoured 8 stops of combined IS in the EOS R5 comes to fruition there may be a caveat that this is only with native RF and not adapted EF. 8 stops seems too good for EF adapted. Of course that is assuming they've already done something different to the RF lenses that have IS. Or maybe just some future RF lenses with different IS will support the 8 stops??

I have no idea...obviously...but those are my thoughts
