I missed it, sorry.

Finding it hard, for some reason, to easily differentiate between bold and not bold on the rumors site. Obviously, the bold function didn't transfer in my copy and paste.

The CR3 items:

Named the Canon EOS R5
45mp full-frame CMOS sensor
IBIS
12fps mechanical, 20fps electronic
8K @ 30fps RAW
4K @ 120fps
Built-in 5GHz WiFi
New battery, but the same shape and compatibility as the EOS 5D Mark IV
Launch in July 2020

Okay... Now we're talking!
It looks like we're very close to an announcement if CR3 specs are leaking out.

So do you recon this is going to be a $3,598 body at release? Or might this slip down closer to $2,598 range?

To the OP. You might want to change the thread title to R5 now.

The video specs seem very high for this camera, maybe true but I am questioning it. If the specs are true. It will be $4000 plus. This could pair nicely with the 1dx Mark III.

Announced in Feb, launch in July? That is one of the longest periods I've seen in awhile. I guess they are trying to stem the tide of people switching systems?

45MP at 12FPS and 20FPS e-shutter....yes please....better have a flippy screen...I'm sure it will if those video specs are legit.
I'm holding off all purchases until I see what reality is with this camera.
This is way better to me than a 70MP, slow FPS camera that has been rumored up until now.
If this has 1DXIII smart controller AF-ON button it would be a big win. Only issue will be how the EVF behaves shooting action in mechanical and e-shutter and what the sensor read speed is to see if using e-shutter is feasible for BIF (and other action).

I agree with Rob...if these specs are even close to correct this is $4K or more.

Can't agree more, if...IF...this does not have an AA filter.

Like you, all purchases are on hold till mid 2020 until we know how this market is shaking out. Tons on the radar right now.

1DXIII Smart Controller AF button looks to be the best solution for moving AF points. Takes up no more real estate than the AF-ON button will already take up. You could still give the LCD option for those that like that but the Smart Controller looks like a much easier and ergonomic way to shoot whether you are a BBF user or not (because you don't have to do AF-ON with it also).
Removing the Scroll bar and replacing it with Smart Controller AF-ON button and then also having an AE-L button to allow two BBF buttons (with complete customization) would

I’d be OK with the smart controller and LCD options.

I am thinking it'll launch at a similar price to the 5D3/4 - around $3500.

I see the smart controller on future bodies, but I think being so close to the 1dx Mark III will not happen this soon. Hopefully it does, I think it will be highly useful. If the EVF acts the same as the R, it will be tough to use at those speeds. The read speed would be critical. Funny if the specs are true because the R did not even get 120 fps in 1080 and now jumps to 4k 120 fps. I call BS on some of this. I really like a few of the features of the R, so a faster camera would be outstanding with increased read speeds.

While I would love for this to be true, it's a quantum leap in performance in mirrorless and I do not think Canon could pull this off at under $5K and seems way beyond what a 5 series replacement would have. These specs make a mockery of the 1DXIII performance and sensor read speed alone would at a minimum be 2x as fast. To pull this off they'll certainly need to be unveiling some very good sensor tech, but I doubt we'll see the requisite stacked sensor needed for 20fps with e-shutter for it to be viable for fast action.

Personally I think it's BS, or if true there will be huge caveats in the performance claims and the price will still have to be very high.

This camera is starting to gain my interest. We'll see what it really is soon enough, but on face value, it seems like it would be a nice upgrade for my 5D4.

I honestly don't see myself diving into video (though you never know) too deeply, but those specs make it really, really interesting.

Like PixelPerfect says, there are bound to be serious limitations with, for example, the 8K or the 120 fps 4K.

For wildlife and birds in flight on paper this camera would be pretty much perfect. Biggest concerns are blackout in the EVF and rolling shutter. If they can provide even 12-14fps via the electronic shutter with no blackout that would be incredible.

That time span does seem odd and I hope it's not correct.
"Stem the tide"? I've actually seen more people in recent months doing just the opposite. They're leaving Sony and coming back to Canon. So I guess you could say "the tide has changed".

$4k will suck badly. I only have one kidney left after the 500II last year.
Time to start polishing up that Harley I guess.

I don't think the tide has changed quite yet. But everyone I know personally (ie not on this forum) is in a holding pattern (except one guy who switched to Sony last month and is loving it). I'm ready to buy either a Canon or Sony 600/4 (or maybe 400/2.8) lens. But I want to see what the next Canon MILC is before plunking down my cash that has been just sitting around since selling all my other Canon and Nikon big glass over the past 2 years.

Glad to see Canon getting serious, but none of the video-related specs mean squat to me as a still-stills shooter. I have a feeling that I'm going to pass on this one in favor of the 60-80mp R unless the R5 has insanely-clean high ISO and no AA filter.

I am surprised there is so much grumbling and a meh reaction to the specs of this. If the rumors are true this is a powerhouse camera. I am beginning to think if someone offered some of the posters here a truckload of gold bars they would pass complaining they are not shiny enough or they don't feel like carrying them around.

It is Canon so I don't fault the trust but verify on the rumor but holy smokes this thing sounds like an all around beast. I am almost second guessing my 1dx3. Almost.

I'm waiting for the next gen 500 f/4, hoping for something under 2.5kg. Maybe they'll both offer it, then it'll come down to who has the best high MP camera for action. If Canon can get DPAF performance up to say D850 levels, I'd most likely choose that. Still would like a native supertele to go with the A9 but I'm not welded to Sony. Hell if Nikon offer something like a D850 in mirrorless and deliver a 600 f/5.6 PF that might sway me. I'll never be able to afford a 600 f/4 and I don't really want one, but a sub 2kg 600 PF would be awesome as would a much lighter 500 f/4. I wonder if Nikon will respond soon for next gen superteles or wait and just release them as Z mount in a few years when they have action cameras in the mirrorless segment that could take real advantage of them. The market is not mature enough IMO to head solely down one path. I'm almost certain to keep a 2 brand system going and Nikon is in the box seat with PF for me, just keep them coming.

I started and deleted a fresh thread. But you may consider editing the first post of the thread, to link to the new CR3 information posted, since CR3 means factual by that sites rating scale.

If the R5 (45 MP) and R6 (20 MP) rumors are true, it means that there will be no higher resolution camera this time around, and possibly even for a long time. While the R5 specs are good for the majority, it is not a camera that I will rush to buy. I think the R5 will have AA filter as well.

If those Videospecs are true, instant buy on my End. Just wondering if Canon will seriously cannibalize half of their Cinemacameras. As with those Specs, c100/c200/c300 are imho dead.
