p.1 #2 · p.1 #2 · Need help/advice dealing with Nikon US repair service. | |
I have had a similar conflict with Nikon. I returned an 80-400 AFS to NikonUsa in Melville NY for routine repairs. Upon its return, when I opened the package I noticed that the reversed hood was racked severely sideways. When I shook the lens there was something rattling inside, sounding exactly like an element had been knocked completely out of position.
The lens was either dropped by Nikon, just as it was being packed for shipping or UPS damaged it. I had no way of knowing what happened.
The minute I discovered this I called NikonUsa.
My attitude was that they were going to fix it at no cost to me, even if I had to persist enough to talk to the President of NikonUsa. I had to go up the chain a few people before someone with authority decided they would make it right. It all ended well, though it was very stressful. In order for them to make it right for me, someone there had to simply believe me, *because I had no proof that I was not the one who dropped the lens*.
*Now, I never open a lens or body package from anyone before setting up a camera and videoing the opening*.
My genuine advice to you is to get on it first thing this Monday morning (Jan 27, 2020). Find out when Melville opens and get them on the phone first thing. You must get by the first layer of people who are the ones who handle most problems. I don’t think that person can help you. Maybe, but I doubt it. I would insist on talking to a Supervisor. If that Super has any kind of an attitude at all....... do whatever it takes to go above him/her. btw, Melville really is good about not putting you on hold for a long time, after they ask you to hold “for just a second”. They always ask me if I mind being put on hold for *a few minutes* so that they can help me.
It is easy for me to say this, but I am honestly confident that if all you said is correct, you *will* find someone who will take responsibility for this and correct it for you.
Please post the outcome. And good luck.
