A cornicopia of images from my first (but won't be my last) trip to Death Valley. These were quick turnarounds from capture to post while still in Death Valley. Will have to take more time to go through them late. Thanks for the location advice from the members of FM! Comments, critiques and questions are always welcome!

Beautiful set of images, Keith. In particular I'm loving that first take of badwater.

Lovely stuff! I sure hope to get there before I expire, as it looks to be compelling geology.

"compelling geology" is an understatement.

Great photos. Plenty of places and images to discover there.

I have been there 20+ times, different months, never the same, never boring. Sand storms, night wind, donkeys, coyotes, kangaroo rats, sand dunes, more sand dunes, wind on dunes, racetrack, flat tires, too hot to camp (yet camping), 32 degree sunrise and 122 degree afternoon in the same day, blocked mines, ghost towns, and more

Keith, a fine set of images from a favorite area of ours.

The first time I spent any serious time in Death Valley was over 25 years ago with a geology field class. Over the years since then, we've driven most of the back roads and 4x4 trails in Death Valley, Panamint Valley and Saline Valley. We still love to roam around this area. One thing that takes some mental adjustment, is the scale of the place both in distances and vertical elevation changes. I still find that driving to some places is a major event. If you intend to get off the major roads, make sure you have a proper vehicle, tires and preparation for unforeseen problems. We pretty much avoid May through September, though I know a few people that seem to enjoy the heat.

Thank you, Art! Even the bit of hiking I did to the dunes and salt flats was disorienting from a distance perspective. I brought my GPS and set a tracklog each hike which helped to keep my bearings and track distance. I had planned to go to the Race Track and had tire sealant, tire plugs, air compressor, spare and a jumper battery. But alas, the playa was still wet in places and the ranger said I could still go out but would have to avoid the wet parts and I opted to wait for another time. Plus I wanted to spend the night out there due to the long drive but was not totally prepared for tent camping. I am already looking forward to exploring more, hopefully, next year.

This is a very good DV set. I particularly love the badlands so I favor the second to last. All are good and worthwhile.
