p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Jamaica Bay Variety

This set was taken from The Runway at the West Pond of Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge. I went there to see how well the Sigma 150-600 C with Fringer Adapter work on my Fuji X-T3 and was very happy to find how fast if focused and tracked.

Out of this fine set, #1 and #4 are my picks, Morris! Somehow I like the skyscrapers in the background in #4.

Very nice set, Morris.

The first image appears to be a pair of Gadwall, not black ducks.

Nice Morris. Did you try a pan on the last one? The conditions might have been ideal for a pan with the birds in focus.

I really like #4. Few questions for you.

How are you finding the 150-600...is it as fast to focus as the Fuji 100-400?

I've been mostly going to Prospect Park, and getting good results with the 50-140, as the birds really like to come up close and are not afraid of people at all. But I'd need a longer lens for anywhere else.

Following on that, what are some good areas to shoot wildlife around NY/NJ?

Thank you Bibek,
I was panning for the last image. The subject and background are very far away so the effect is not noticable.

Thank you Nitewulf,

Yes focus is very fast and I can't tell the difference in focus speed or tracking. The 100-400 +1.4x dose not track as well as the Sigma so for the long end the sigma is best.

I don't shoot much in NJ, mostly queens and Long Island. Faverates:
Jamaica Bay NWR - Year Round, particular migration and winter
Nickerson Beach - Spring, Summer, early Fall.
Jones Beach - Winter
Marine Nature Study Area in Oceanside - Spring, Summer, early Fall.
State Line Overlook in NJ, all seasons, best when no leaves or leaves changing
Georges Island, county park, Winter
