This is the subspecies of the eastern Andes, its main difference with the western subspecies is the orange coloration. I took these photos in one of the best places to photograph this bird in Baños city - Ecuador

All are excellent Javier. You did a super job of getting feather detail on that orange head

Gorgeous birds and you captured them well, Javier! I got to see the red version although most of the time they stayed really far away from our hideout. They are not small and I had to put a 2X TC on my 600mm lens in crop mode and crop the file for an effective focal length of approximately 2,400mm to get them and I could only decent images. It seems to me that your position is quite a bit closer.

Thanks for your comment, this lek is special and allows you to be 10 meters or less from the bird. I know another lek in Mindo different to Angel Paz where you can also be near of the Cock of the Rock. For me the best Lek is in Colombia in Jardín city, this is the only place where you can be less than 3 meters from the bird and achieve incredible shots. In April I will be leading 2 photography tours and we will visit this amazing place.

The beak is always hidden, only rarely when the bird opens the feathers on the sides of the beak it is visible.
