to buy depending: E-M1 MkIII or a better M4/3 body to go with above gear.

Sony gear I have yet to sell: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1629470

The solution that works for me is simple; have both systems.

Didn't work for me though. I bought the Sony A7R II + 3 lenses twice within a 2-year period ... and sold it both times - as I just could not get used to the dual platform. The Mk II was (then) a little quirky and it did things that drove me crazy. Plus I find that traveling with 2 different systems is great hassle. Likewise, shooting with 2 different systems. Heck, after about 8 years with Olympus I am still finding out and learning new things about the camera! But E-M1 II has become quite intuitive for me so I don't usually have to dig too deep into the menu to make any changes or search too hard for a seldom-used feature.

Rumored E-M1 III specs by the Daily Camera News site ... which is not the same thing as leaked specs, of course.

That's really just a wishlist from the author. The closest thing we have to rumored specs would be what's below.

Hi together,

new MK III will NOT include the sensor (IMX492LQJ) speculated here. This sensor is currently not used in cameras, as all other components to process double MP (20 vs. 40 MP) are not technically (thermally) and economically feasible to integrate. Furthermore, the ISO noise would be too high at the moment.

It will be a 20 MP sensor (sony), with a new and significantly improved coating. The MK III will be a significant improvement over the MK II, but not a revolution.

We will see almost all the features of the EM 1 X plus two new innovations. The good

I've had a foot in both camps for a while. I mostly shot Olympus M4/3, while using Sony for landscape work and travel, where I might want the option of printing very large. But I'm thinking now of reweighting to shoot mostly Sony, retaining Olympus only for when I need a really small system.

Over the holidays In Australia I shot almost entirely the Sony A7 III. The AF-C with tracking and face and eye detection is amazing, and IQ even with average Sony lenses probably equals or betters Olympus pro glass.

And while I used to find Sony ergonomics quite bad, I think these are mostly very well sorted now.

Good to know that Olympus' market share of the systems camera market is just as strong as Nikon and Sony - who are all well ahead of Fuji and Panasonic.

The more camera companies succeed the better for all of us. Choice is good.

It seems like M43 has reached a point where there are no more sensor improvements, at least for the time being.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether the EM1.3 will have 7 stops of “native” IBIS like the E-M1X?
Or will they “differentiate” the two by throttling the 1.3 at 6.5 stops?

The question on my mind is-
Which combo would work better IRL, at the long end:

1. M1X or 1.3 (assuming 7 stops) with 40-150 Pro and IBIS only
Or
2. EM1.2 with 12-100 and Dual IS

"For the time being" is correct. Looks like the global sensor is still in the development stage.

Nobody knows yet, of course, but to me there is no difference between 6.5 and 7 stops of IS. Looks like the E-M1 III will have all of the features of the E-M1X (with a new but not dual processors) and then some.

True.. 6.5 and 7 are not that far apart.. but with the M1.2, IBIS is maxed at 5.5, vs 7.0 for the M1X.
But that’s still IBIS, and I’m wondering how effective is it really, and up to what focal length should it be a factor to consider for stabilisation..

The joystick and HHHR are big pluses.

The term "hand held high resolution" annoys me to no end. Olympus has done little to shed light on the confusion. People think they are getting pixel shifting, but that is really not the case.

We all have HHHR, its called photo stacking. I have been using HHHR since I bought a Nikon D200 (great camera!)

I don't really know the difference, but HHHR is taken with just 1 press of the shutter button and the stacking occurs in-camera.

Pixel shifting truly increases shot resolution, as though you had a larger sensor. In this case the camera is in charge of moving the sensor precisely so that more information is collected. For photo stacking, the photographer's hand movement samples the scene differently between shots. Photos get stacked, then aligned and an average is taken for each pixel - which is different than collecting more information in the first place (pixel shifting) . The main effect of photo stacking is the reduction of noise with some resolution increase but not nearly as much as true pixel shifting - in my experience.

FM discussion: https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1588207

I have macros set up for photo stacking in post. It does not take that long, and in addition, you have some control on how pixels get averaged. I have been taking HHHR shots for ~ 15 years.

The High-Res mode, according to the Olympus site, is actually pixel-shifting. Are you implying that they don't do it this way anymore? I am thinking that HHHR is the same pixel shifting but it now takes only a fraction of a second to complete process.
