Looks like those waiting for a 70-200 F4 will have to either stick with F-mount for a while or adopt the 100-400 depending on it's size.

I thought I wanted a 35mm f1.2, but then I thought it through some more and was like, why? I tend to stop down my 35 f1.4 a lot of the time anyway, and 1.8 is fine. I'm just being silly.

I do want an 85 f1.2 though, and a 135 f2 or f1.8. I like shooting primes. However, the performance specs on the new 70-200 are really enticing though.

I think you self corrected yourself here.
With 35, at 1.2, that would fun, but portraits would be frustrating.
at 50mm, it's a little easier at 1.2
at 85mm, now we're talking.

the only concern I have is that if I am going to have ONE f1.2 lens,
1. the weight and size
2. the investment
3. the focal plane/shift

regarding #3, it would be >/= 50mm

I believe a 58mm would be the best for ME.
why?
see # 1, 2, and therefore...
I would rather have my one f1.2 lens be 58 b/c it's a versatile FL.
It's close enough to 50 to be a "normal" walk around FL.
It's close enough to "true portrait FL" which IMO is 85mm. Meaning, there is enough compression for portrait work, at 58.
And, bonus, 58 is not too long to use indoors. So those funds will be well spent, b/c the product can be used both inside/out.

If I put all my F1.2 eggs in one basket and it's a 50? not the worst case, as it's really not too far from 58.
I would rather it be 58, though, providing a more flattering effect for portrait work.
at 50mm, it's even more usable inside. and I just need to make sure I take a half step forward, for outdoor portraits (as I'm focusing on my framing/composition more now, than ever).

So, even though 85mm is my "jam", my absolute fav FL for portrait sessions (outdoors, which is where I do most of my work)... I guess a F1.2 50mm S lens, would make the most sense. As I can only imagine the 85 1.2 would have been another 3-4" long and perhaps 250 more grams?

My bag would go from:

12-24
24-70s 2.8
35s 1.8
50s 1.8
85s 1.8
70-200 2.8s

to

12-24
35s 1.8
50s 1.2
85s 1.8
70-200 2.8s

as you can see, I would probably sell my 24-70 2.8s, as good as it is. I should say GREAT.
if you want one that has been used maybe 1-3x for minimal time, LMK.
Why would I sell it?
Because if I have a $2500 f1.2 50mm, you better believe I'm going to use it a lot.
And 50mm is like a 24-70 to me.
Sure, the 24-70 is more versatile. But I'm a prime guy, and I NEVER use this zoom, it's more for insurance.

this probably doesn't seem interesting to anyone, lol, sorry... I'm just babbling!
I guess it's therapeutic.

my two body/lens options would be:

portait session outdoors
z6 70-200 f2.8s
z7 50 1.2s

vs.

event
z6 35 1.8s
z7 85 1.8s
(or reverse for cropping ability)

vs.

getting ready
z6 35 1.8s
z7 50 1.2s

vs.

ceremony
z6 70-200 2.8s
z7 35 1.8s

Was there an update recently to the Z lens release timeline/roadmap that I missed or this is the latest? Very interested in that 24-105 S (I guess I am the only one), for me 24-70 feels inadequate as one-lens solution for traveling.

23 total lenses by the end of next year. That's actually REALLY impressive. I'm having my eyes on the 50 f/1.2 right now and I hope it's priced around the 70-200 (similar to how Canon has their f/1.2 and 70-200 priced). I don't see the rumored 85 f/1.2 though but I guess the 50 f/1.2 will make a stand for a bit! Either way, I'm excited that Nikon finally has a modern 50 f/1.2 lens that's actually AF

The lineup looks great for FX. Nikon is pretty much hitting it out of the park there.

A pity Nikon seems to be intending on doubling-down on its usual mistakes in DX. No UWA zoom, no reasonably priced DX primes (A 35/1.8DX and a 22-24mm/1.8DX are needed and few Z50 users are going to want the cost & size of the FX versions). If they launch a higher-end body they'll also need higher-spec DX zooms.

Only three lenses of interest to me, which nobody else seems to want

1) 14-24/2.8 - and only if it takes nomral-ish filters and weighs less than an Abrams tank. Otherwise sticking with 14-30/4

2) 100-400 - and only if it is variable aperture and weighs less than the 80-400. Otherwise sticking with the 80-400

3) 20/1.8 if it is as light and compact as the F-mount one but has decent manual focusing. Will only buy in the (likely) event that the 14-24 requires monster filters
