p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Z-Lens Speculation Thread

I just saw this post on Nikon Rumors :
https://nikonrumors.com/2020/01/08/nikon-nikkor-z-mirrorless-lens-lineup-11-lenses-available-now-12-more-to-come-by-2021.aspx/#more-142255

Evidently the new lens map takes us out until 2021. It looks to me that Nikon is trying to compete head to head with the Sony lens lineup. As a wildlife photographer the non-S 200-600 is of great interest. While Nikon does not show a lot of detail, the shadow diagrams suggest that the 200-600 will be an internal zoom design (like the Sony) rather than the telescoping design of the 200-500VR. Should this be an accurate representation of the lens, and Nikon keeps the price competitive, it could be a really valuable tool for those of us who hope to transition to Nikon mirrorless as the AF improves.

interesting times.

Very interested in that 40. Wouldn’t mind a 28/1.8 better than the 35 but doesn’t look like that’s on the road map.

A 200-600 5.6 ED IF lens would definitely be an addition to my arsenal. Sharpness, wgt, and price would be the determinig factors. Pro build at least the level of the 500PF would be paramount. Ie, better quality than the 200-500

That is something I would look forward to

I think I'm going to get a 24 1.8 and wait for the 24-105 to come instead of grabbing a copy of a 24-70/4.

Beyond hyped for the 50 1.2.

Yes, I'm worried we get to join with Sony users, pining for a top quality 28mm :/

I won't be surprised if those non-s line pancake 28/40 will be f2.8. Luckily we have the stellar 28 1.4E in f mount and ftz works great (speaking from experience).

Agreed on both fronts, however I’m hoping they’re at least excellent but slow. Remains to be seen what non “S” lens is.

Really hope that 105mm micro to hit the market soon. The current 105mm is still a truly nice lens but like to see a revised lens with Z mount that has the latest lens technology in it
The Z6/7 with FP is just made for macro photography.

I could see the pancakes being F2 with compromised edge performance, making them reasonable shallow DoF primes for the Z50 etc.

Well at least for the two non-S DX zoom lenses in the system the answer appears to be pretty darn good. Both of those (16-50 and 50-250) appear to perform at the top end of expectations for a consumer lens. Everyone raves about the 16-50 and I tested the 50-250 on a Z7 and was quite impressed. Didn't seem to have the flaws so typical of slow consumer telephoto zooms.

Fair point. I owned the 16-50 and yea it was quite good. It’s aperture being the only real draw back.

Still looking forward to that 40 now!

I've got 16-50 kit lens, 50mm F1.8S, 300mm F4 PF and TC14III with my little Z50.
I just need Laowa 9mm F2.8 for UW, so I'm hoping Laowa releases such lens for Z-mount, they already released 15mm F2 for FF, I guess they know how to do it by now.
Laowa has 9mm for Fuji, Sony and Canon M-mount. I played with it on Fuji and I liked it a lot.

It looks like a solid lens line up, but I was really hopping for a high quality 28mm f1.8s, and a 100-300 f4.

That 40 looks very interesting. Hopefully it's a F/2 or at least a F/2.8. That 24-200...I can see it for travel use. Still contemplating about the 70-200 2.8 or the 50 1.2S lol Finally, an AF 50mm F/1.2 lens from Nikon

Betting it's a 2.8 but time will tell. Will definitely acquire one either way.

I would like to see 70-200 f/4 S, but I ordered a refurbished F mount version of the lens until that happens to complement my 24-70 f/4 S.

I would also like to see a proper macro lens in Z mount soon.

I thought I wanted a 35mm f1.2, but then I thought it through some more and was like, why? I tend to stop down my 35 f1.4 a lot of the time anyway, and 1.8 is fine. I'm just being silly.

I do want an 85 f1.2 though, and a 135 f2 or f1.8. I like shooting primes. However, the performance specs on the new 70-200 are really enticing though.

That's quite a lofty goal for Nikon if they truly intend to release all of these lenses by 2021. I have to wonder if they meant by the end of 2021?

Either way, I'm really looking forward to the 200-600 and hopefully (maybe) a more sports and wildlife oriented Z mount APS-C body. If Nikon can find a way to translate their D500 AF into a Z body, look out Sony!

The interesting lenses for me are the 20/1.8S, the 24-105/4S to replace my 24-70/4S and the 100-400S to replace my AF-P 70-300/5.6E and probably 300PF
I'm wondering what aperture the 100-400S will be; probably 4,5-5.6 like the Sony.
I hope the introduce them not all at once, my bankaccount wouldn't survive.
A D500 in Z-mount would be on my radar as well.
