Since 6 months I am owing both APO-Telyt and APO-Lanthar 180.

I am not capable to decide with one is to be kept as advantages disadvantages are compensating. So i am keeping both. Nevertheless although i want to keep one lens to keep the two is an overshoot.

For the APO-Lanthar:

a) size and weight
b) ergonomics
c) good at short range
d) close portraits are possible

for the APO-Telyt:

a) optics slightly better. slightly faster
b) no pollution from concentrated light spots (very disturbing for night usage in APO-Lanthar)
c) good at large range
d) close portraits are not possible

Against both:

a) color and contrast. This is not loxia. Probably high performance lenses are much larger or zooms... whenever you use loxs after using any of this both lenses is like a blow of light and color!

Any suggestion ? thanks in advance

Though some have argued that the Leica R 180mm f3.4 Apo-Telyt does not perform well at closer range, it still can perform fairly well. If you need to focus the lens closer than the minimum focusing distance, you can use any of the Leitz R 2 or 3 ring extension sets, Macro Adapter R or if you are willing to spend even more money the Leica R 1.4X Apo Extender that can be used with the lens providing you place the extension tubes or the Macro Adapter R between the Extender and the lens itself.

Another alternative for additional extension is to use any of the Sony FE extension sets available by any maker for the Sony FE cameras.

You can also get a Sony FE to Leica R adapter that has a built in helicoid so that you get closer with your Telyt.
