p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Adjusting white balance with jpegs

I have been shooting mostly in RAW for many years and have always adjusted white balance in ACR using either the white or black eye dropper, or one of the types of light options.

Recently I was doing some testing that could only be done with jpegs. When doing a search on how to adjust white balance for jpegs, I learned you can go into Photoshop Preferences and have your jpegs open in Adobe Camera Raw and use the same options to adjust your white balance.

Goes to show even an old dog like me can learn a new trick using an outdated version of CS6.

Shoot a daylight scene in RAW. Convert that image to jpeg, but use a Tungsten white balance, so it's really messed up. Now load that jpeg in Camera Raw and try to fix it (back to daylight).

That exercise will quickly show you the limitations of adjusting WB on jpegs.

I am well aware of the limitations of adjusting WB on jpegs. So what? As I already saidt: Recently I was doing some testing that could only be done with jpegs.

The point is that if you only have jpegs, they can have the WB adjusted in ACR.

And the results are not that bad.
