It was a good opportunity to try some CIZ pictures.
Reasons:
1. The light was low, so not much chance to use 2X, but wanted a little larger image.
2. I was anticipating a take off shot, so I did not want to get too close to the bird but wanted a larger image while waiting.
What do you think? They are all JPEG images since the CIZ function only works with the JPEG setting. I used the mechanical shutter since it can still shoot 10 FPS with AF-C while CIZ was enabled. Handheld.

Why would you need a TC with results like this unless you wanted RAW to work from These look great especially for a dismal day on light. Great results that I see!

Your examples with explanations of how much CIZ was used and then crops also posted conveyed plenty to me. I just configured my A9 ready to try it out tomorrow for the first time.
(RAW turned off, Zoom setting added to My Menu, CIZ set to 1.5)
I'm currently shooting some Brown goshawks and some Collared sparrowhawks using 1000mm focal length and need to crop heavily, around 3000 to 4000 pixel wide crops.
Your results look great and I hope I can achieve similar.

I agree with Tony...you need to show a comparison cropped to the same framing between not using it, using it at 1.5x and using the lens with 1.4TC. I'm not seeing that in these examples.
The examples look good as presented but don't tell me if they are better than getting the RAW without CIZ and processing it.

Thanks for posting the follow-up examples. The CIZ has crazy sharpening going on and artifacts all over the face. I'm sure you could match that "look" if you wanted to with the RAW file.

I still feel the CIZ is a useless feature.
Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but I don't see a lot of objectionable artifacts in the CIZ picture. In fact I'm surprised at how good it does look.

While I wouldnt call it useless since I can see why some people will find a reason to use it, after a test I did recently, I much rather just upscale in post like using Gigapixel AI which gives me better results than CIZ.

I tried CIZ couple of times, and had the same conclusion. I much prefer the raw crop with or without upscaling, just can't stand the artifacts at 100% CIZ images.
These look great especially for a dismal day on light. Great results that I see!
