I do a lot of food photography and the Batis 40 works well. I have it up for sale in the Buy/Sell forum, though, as I carry a different lens for general shooting which I can also use for food, so it's become redundant. It is an amzing lens, though.

Good idea but I have two suggestions. Why on this site? You can only post pictures if you pay monthly or yearly subscription. Second why not make it open for all Batis lenses? There is a site www.zeissimages.com where you can freely post all photos taken with Zeiss lenses. You can also call up all photos taken with a particular lens. It would be great to have people with Batis lenses post there. It is run by Jorge Torralba and it is a great site. Check it out.

There are image hosting images where you can look up images based on the lenses used. BTW, you don’t have to subscribe to the image upload here on FM. You can link your images hosted somewhere else to this site. I started the Zeiss Batis Image thread a few years ago but the number of Batis users dwindled over time and the thread didn’t get much if any traction after a while. First, no, you can post pictures via embedding them (Flickr etc.) as I did. in my initial posting.
And: well, in this thread I wanted to focus on the Batis 40 only.

In general, the more specialized the thread, e.g. a certain lens rather than a lens type/group, the more difficult it is to get any traction for obvious reasons. You already started the thread, let’s see how it goes.

I really love the Zeiss Batis 40mm which I recently purchased! I find it to be a very versatile lens. It's the perfect lens for when I'm not sure whether to grab the 35mm or the 50mm. The close focusing ability is also a nice advantage. It's very sharp and despite what others have said about the bokeh, I find it very pleasing. Here is a blue hour dusk shot of Beaver Creek, Colorado captured recently that I quite like.

Hey Folks, the images are stunning. I did a lot of research on this lens and was all set on buying it, when an issue regarding poor eye-AF was brought to my attention. Apparently, this issue was not resolved with the firmware update and phil reeve was the one who pointed it out. Based on some further research, it seems like others also have this issue. I'd appreciate it if you can please comment on it because from the pictures above, the eye sharpness is spot on.

Dustin Abott didn't have this issue and he makes a note of this.

Could it be large copy variation? Quite a bummer for such an expensive lens. This is the only thing that's holding me back. Apparently it tends to mainly occur in AF-C at close focusing distances.

I have had zero issues with my copy. It does seems that there may be some copy variation issues but I find my copy of the lens to be incredibly sharp and focusing is just as fast and accurate as with any of my Sony lenses even at close distances . It definitely has become a favorite lens of mine. It’s the perfect lens to take when you’re not sure if you want to take the 35 or the 50 and the 40mm is the perfect focal length right in the middle and covers both. I’m a little bit surprised that more people haven’t fallen more in love with this lens.
