These were taken at a location the local photographers call "The Runway". It's atop the south dam for the West Pond at Jamaica Bay National Wildlife Refuge. When the wind is out of the south which is quite common due to proximity to the Atlantic the birds take off into the wind and pass just a few feet above us. The downside of this location is that you are standing in the wind and need to bundle up. I'm looking forward to the snow geese and more ducks.
