Has anyone used an older Canon 80-200 2.8 L on an current Sony body? If so what adapter did you use and how did it work

I used a Canon 80-200 f2.8L with the mc-11 on an A7riii. All worked fine, but af was noticeably slow. Pictures were great.

I have used this lens in a7rIII and now in RIV with metabones adaptor. It is a very sharp lens but the AF is hit and miss outside the central area (as in most adapted telephoto lenses). Also the focus speed is on the slow side.

A9 is a different game and all the adapted lenses behave better with it. Give it a try.

Using it on my A7III with the MC-11 and as reported by others, it's kinda slow and noisy to focus, but precise at least. Guess for wedding scenarios could still be a viable solution, but nothing that moves faster for sure.

It's really very very good optically, sharp, nice colors and contrasty, just beware that is a pretty heavy all-metal old-fashioned lens. Apart from the risk that if it breaks down you end with a nice paperweight, I think that for the <USD 400 that it can be found now it's a steal for a 2.8 telezoom of such quality

Well I just tried it out of curiosity and I'll agree with the above comments here (a9 and MC-11). AF was very noisy and even clunky sounding however it locked onto mostly centrally located static subjects without too much difficulty. Anything that moves, forget it. I got my wife to walk slowly towards me a number of times and I didn't get one sharp image, the little green box was on her eye however the AF system just couldn't do it. I then tried my newer 70-200 2.8 II and it was faster again and could track as it's AF system is more modern and capable.
For general shooting, sans tracking, it should be fine and optically it's a cracker of a lens.
