Lovely tones here Brad. Do you mind if I ask, are you using film presets or how do you process? I love your files like this
Thanks, Nehemiah, and thanks again (so much!) for recommending this lens. It's been a slow burn but I now thoroughly love it. At first I felt it was too sharp and contrasty for my taste, but it seems my tastes are changing and the more I use it the more I discover its possibilities.
I did use one of Capture One's "beyond film" style presets for this image (Fuji 400), dialed back to about 20 percent strength in both color and contrast; I normally prefer the Kodak ones, which are warmer, but they were too yellowy for this image and the Fuji was just right once I warmed up the white balance a little. I reduced overall contrast just a touch and I also added some slight vignetting by applying a radial mask that extended from her face to her hands and pulling back exposure and cooling the white balance outside the mask. I also dialed back the highlights considerably, brought up the midtones, and opened up the shadows a little (all of that before adding the radial mask for a slight vignette).
That's a lot more post-processing than I usually do, but the initial image out of camera didn't seem compelling until I started playing with it. For reference, here's the unmodified image before I messed with it. I have a tendency to over-warm and in retrospect I could dial the white balance back a bit more on the final version.
