I did it, I formatted the wrong card and lost some portraits. Can anyone recommend a recovery software? I would prefer free if you know of any.
Thanks

g, most of the card brands have their own and can be downloaded from their site, if I recall correctly.
Iíve only tried it once with a corrupted card a lid it didnít work.
You can also send it to the company but it cost a couple hundred dollars in case itís a must-have wedding!!
Good luck
John

One possibility. I have not used their software, but do know that the company has been around for a number years

I just recovered a friend's SanDisk Extreme Pro SD card using an old version of SanDisk's RescuePro on a Mac (it would help if you told us which platform you're using. I've also successfully recovered images using ProSoft Rescue Pro.

Lexar used to have a program called "Image Rescue" or something like that. You might check their site. I used it successfully on a CF card many many moons ago.

SanDisk includes a 1-year subscription to RescuePro with their SD cards. I use the old version because its license is perpetual and one never knows how far in the future you're going to need to recover a card.

DiskDrill Media Recovery (from the Mac App Store) also works and isn't expensive, but I find RescuePro to be the best of the lot.

I've used Disk Drill. They have a free trial in which you can preview the recoverable files, and the cost is I think $89 (there may be coupon codes floating around) to purchase access to the files.

Asking for a software that lets you access all your files for free, well, it's kind of like asking for a free wedding session from a talented photographer. If you wouldn't work for free, why should a software developer?

Sandisk does have that free download software included on their cards, never used it so not sure how efective it is.

R-Studio Data Recovery saved my butt a couple of times, including a corrupted card I got after a whole day of shooting, that was life saver.

you can download a trial version of rescue pro at sandisk website if you do not have a product key for the software. you can install and run the trial version to locate your deleted images. then you can chose to buy the program to recover you images because the trial version does not have the image recovery option.

btw, rescue pro is not written by sandisk. i believed the link at sandisk website will redirect you to the OEM site. depending on the capacity of the memory card, it may take a while for the sw to completely scan your card.

good luck!

Yes, SanDisk RescuePRO is the software mentioned in this thread.
If you have a participating SanDisk card, there is a free one year subscription to the software provided with the card. Normally, this is a SanDisk Extreme series card. You can download it here... SanDisk RescuePRO https://www.lc-tech.com/rescuepro/
If it is not a SanDisk card you have, you can also buy it.

the trial version of sandisk rescuepro will allow you to preview all of the files it can see and recover, but the recovery feature is disabled. you can buy the sw to enable the recovery feature.

the scanning speed is dependent on the read speed of your card.

and as others have advised, stop saving more images or format the card.

Data recovery apps saved my bacon a couple of times during my Canon days. HOWEVER, forget getting anything off a formatted card if you're a Sony user. Unless they've recently modified their firmware, Sony utilizes a "deep formatting" system which totally erases anything on an SD card. I accidentally formatted a card and subsequently tried nearly every retrieval app out there with zero results. I finally took it to the best professional lab in Boston and they were unable to retrieve any data as well. Sony users, beware!

This is indeed worrying situation. I had such moments twice in my life and therefore i eventually decided to choose any good data recovery software to get things back. I rightly selected Cat, data recovery software. CAT Data Recovery software is a highly efficient and easy to use data retrieval software that may be your best shot at restoring lost data. It is perfectly compatible on Mac and windows.
This software The software can recover 300+ file types also it offers smart Features include deep scan and preview. See more details about this software here https://www.reviewsed.com/cat-data-recovery-software-review/

I have a few of the SanDisk serial numbers if you need one. Have more of their cards than computers to install the software on. PM me and I can send you a s# so you can hopefully rescue your images.

The most important thing is not to write anything to the card. When a card is formatted, my understanding is that no image files are erased. Instead, there is one file that is the table of contents for the card that is over-written. The rescue software, whatever the brand, is able to look at the contents of the card without the use of the table of contents. If you write new files to the card, you will overwrite your lost image files. If you have not written new files to the card, your chances of recovering your images is excellent. I've had good luck with ImageRecall and also with the company Flashfixers, at flashfixers.com. All my experience is quite ancient, however. I first used Flashfixers in 2001, when I pulled a card out of the camera while it was still writing and lost about 100 images during an event. Flashfixers saved my butt and did so quite reasonably.

Losing your precious photos or documents is a very bad story. You can try it yourself, but there is no guarantee of complete success. When my hard drive crashed, my bride cried for a long time, thinking her wedding photos were lost forever. Our friend advised us to contact SalvageData to do hard drive data recovery. It seemed like an eternity to me. I was not sure of a positive result. After all, it could not be a full recovery. Fortunately, all turned out well. Now on the advice of experts, I make backup copies not only of photos but also of documents.
