To mark the 20th anniversary of the Voigtland Classic Line, we are today presenting the Voigtland APO-LANTHAR 50 mm F2.0, which was developed exclusively for Sony E-Mount full-frame cameras!

The name APO-LANTHAR is only awarded for particularly powerful lenses in the Voigtländer range. And with the new APO-LANTHAR 50 mm F2.0 we are talking about a real masterpiece! The development goal was to provide the highest level of imaging performance without compromising on design. For this purpose almost all technically possible registers were drawn to ensure this top performance. Two aspherical lens elements, five with anomalous partial dispersion, an integrated floating-focus system and an optical calculation that reduces chromatic aberrations to near zero ensure outstanding performance. The total of 12 diaphragm blades have a special shape, so that not only at aperture F2.0 but also at aperture F2.8 creates a circular opening. This allows for circular bokeh from a point light source. As usual from Voigtländer, the aperture selection and the focusing are done manually, with the focus peaking function, this can be done very precisely. The shutter snaps in 1/3 steps and can also be completely switched to stepless (and therefore silent).

The Voigtland APO-LANTHAR 50 mm F2.0 has electrical contacts that integrate the lens settings in the image acquisition with the Exif information. In addition, the lens is equipped with a distance encoder, which enables the support of 5-axis image stabilization on Sony cameras by providing the distance to the subject to compensate for camera shake.

Our new APO-LANTHAR 50mm F2.0 is a true high-performer and sets the tone in the top class. Especially in conjunction with the new high-performance sensors from Sony, one can expect outstanding results!

Certainly not: SAR error. This is a 364g brass helicoid 2/50. No way it could be macro. In fact its 45cm MFD. It's a Loxia (and APO summicron 2/50) competitor.

Means I might keep my 2/65 for botanical expeditions, and the new little guy becomes the 50mm lens cap to replace Loxia.

Two asph, five APD, 12 blades. APO performance in the 110mm ballpark. Looks small and tidy.

Of course. Right after I sell off my Sony stuff Voigtlander releases a lens I really wanted them to make. Oh well...

APO correction, tiny package- two big reasons for me.

We already have two superb macro lenses from CV.

It will be one of the very few strongest 50mm lenses and will certainly win the 50mm power-weight ratio contest for FE, at a fraction the size/weight/cost of the competition. Heritage is the two macros for FE but minus the helicoid gearing. See the image at SAR, extrapolate from the rings and font sizes. Another instant winner for manual focus users.

The CV65 is so good, im going to have to try this also for sure! Focal length may be more practical and smaller

It's small, 49mm filter, 364g it will have better performance than the 1.2/50.

There's already the 2/65 macro which is great, but many folk have said that it would be great to have a lens that performs as well but is much smaller at the expense of macro.

I'll be keeping my 2/65 for botanical stuff, but getting this to replace Loxia 2/50 as the manual workhorse.

Interesting that they didn't announce anything about it on their Japanese website but it's announced via Photoscala article instead. Seems like a development announcement as there is no price or release date information yet.

Another strange thing is that it was stated to be a release to celebrate 20 year anniversary of their classic line but this iens seems very different from theic classic line.

Anyway, it's very nice to see a new lens for e-mount from them

Interestingly the press release seems to be circulating only in Germany so far.

Anyway, the lens looks like a realistic one and I'm curious about the pricing. I'm very happy with my 50/1.2 but this 50/2 will have a floating element to be great at MFD too and is also tempting.

This compared to the CV 50 1.2 @ f/2 will be an interesting test.
