This is a 100% crop of a photo I took at a local pond this morning. I can't figure out what this creature is. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Located in central Texas, USA.

I added my location to the original post.

I'd love for it to be a gator but we don't have any around here that I'm aware of. It would be awesome though to have local gators.

Maybe a Texas Spiny Softshell turtle? I'd say its definitely a turtle of some sort, and probably of the softshell variety.

A turtle is what I was leaning toward as well. I see them often, just not one that looks like this.

I agree. It is definitely not a gator of any age. Baby gators look like miniature big gators, a little slimmer but the same basic head design.
