I'd spent about 15 minutes crawling up to a colony of a few hundred black skimmers at Nickerson Beach when I heard whoosh and they were all in the air. I look into my EVF and it's black! I figure this is one of those moments when the eye present sensor did not work so I try again, black. Expletive! I blindly point my camera in the direction of the action and hold down the shutter hoping to capture the chaos. Then I remember the LCD and compose with it. As the chaos starts to settle into the defensive circle the birds always fly I try the viewfinder again and it works fine. I continue to take photos and spot what caused the birds to blast off in my viewfinder. You will see this in my images.
