I like the A7RIV with a built-in 26MP APS-C better.

Well the battery alone is a big upgrade for at least a A series user. Some shoots I have to arm a few shooters. So a second body like this with a good 16-55 all Z batteries across the whole system would be a benefit. Right now I rent a body and usually buy a lens for my two big events. She merging to think about

I think the battery update is a big deal as a system

Has a extra custom function button. Maybe more to this. Let's see the official release

I like the idea of an a6600 with a 10-18mm/4 and the new 16-55/2.8 plus one prime, probably the Sony 24mm/1.4, as a nice small travel kit.

I can certainly see that also, but the same lens coverage for me with the a7r4 would mean taking my 16-35mm/2.8, 24-70mm/2.8, and a prime. Very different weight and management issues. Both kits make sense under different circumstances.

Sometimes, having the kit in an accessible form and actually with you is all that matters. I have many travel pictures I still love and that are technically strong from back in the days when I only had an a6000 or even an NEX 7. But I do have a pre-order in for the a7r4.

The a6600 with a 10-18/4 or 16-55/2.8 would also make a great, discreet street camera.

Disappointing. Although I like the z battery no advanced af system makes this a no go for me. Glad I didn’t wait for this and went ahead and got an a6400 upon release. Personally I don’t need ibis as the 200-600 and 100-400 have it in lens and I use a battery grip with the 6400 anyways to make the ergos better.

What do you mean no advanced AF system? It has the same AF system as the a6400, which is second in the Sony system to the A9 in AF capabilities...it is Sony's advanced AF system. What do you find lacking in AF on your a6400?

I too will be keeping my a6400, though if I hadn't gotten the a6400, I'd probably go for the 6600 if buying now...just switching doesn't make a ton of sense just for the larger battery, IBIS and better grip, though those would be nice to have....just not for the $700 it would likely cost to make the switch.

I'm actually somewhat interested in the new telezoom, as a compact supertelephoto could be really nice to have, provided it isn't overpriced.

No, they came out with a camera that played to the weakness’s of their system instead of their strengths. In short it was a big picture decision that encompassed the sagging market and in short, their AF wasn’t that great even with high end bodies, difficulty with subject isolation on a small sensor, plus other reasons. Their emx signaled to me that it was time to change systems. The Sony A9 has spoiled for what to expect in a mirror less camera and I figured it was only a matter of time till the 200-600 showed up. Understood. I’m optimisticically holding on to my MFT kit, but also got a D500 and the 500PF lens for bird photography.

Must be a first that on the same day, Canon announces a higher-MP body than Sony for the same size sensor. Interesting times.

Yes, agreed. I don't see a reason to buy the 6600 other than the battery. The battery is the best reason to upgrade IMO. It would be nice to be rid of battery anxiety. I think as it stands now, I'll trade in my A7r3 and A6400 towards the A7R4 if it works out as good as it sounds.

What I mean is an a9 like af system which I thought was obvious and what most of us have been clamoring for.

All of these features except for the z battery are already in the a6400. Again it’s an exact duplicate of the a6400 including max shutter speed, FPS, real time tracking, af coverage etc. don’t think Its worth an upgrade if your already shooting long glass with ibis which is my only use for an apsc and I suspect for a lot of other users as well.

No, real time eye-AF for video isn't, too. Didn't check all the other things.
Z-battery + IBIS alone are huge benefits. Now it depends on pricing.

I'm with you on the compact supertelephoto, I hope it's sharp and not priced insanely. If I upgrade to the A7R4 from the 3, it'll give me a compact crop action camera setup when I need it, although even with the A7R3 it's doable.

Agreed. I get the impression that Sony has put the brakes on cropped sensor camera development. The new models don't stray too far from the mold. It's too bad, a cropped sensor A9 with the same body and with similar capabilities would be a bird photographers dream, even if "only" 24 megapixels.

I also agree with some of the previous posters in regards to the a7riv. It makes more sense if you have the $ to get it. You get a better apsc camera that can double as a hi resolution camera. Probably the route I will take as well

I suspect that Sony has still not dropped the final shoe (s) for APS-C for 2019 or into early 2020.

I would not be surprised if they still will have the A6700 and quite possibly the A7000/Mini A9 camera to be announced and released. Photoplus in NYC runs from October 24-26.

Canon went for a stronger photography machine, Sony went for stronger video. Tough to sample down from a close to 8K sensor. They would have went backwards on video to make it happen. 24 is currently a magic number for them until they can figure it out, or do away with video quality and jump up the MP (R4 strategy)

Agree from that point of view. But if I am going to buy the A7RIV anyway, I would not buy any of the a6xxxx bodies with the known specs.

You think there is a chance of a 4th apsc body this year.. even though they labeled the 6600 as flagship?
