I'm with you guys.. if the EVF is in the middle, it has A7RIV ergonomics, IBIS and close to A9 AF performance it's a day one preorder for me. I'd really like to pair it with my 200-600 for birding. I'm hoping this could be the equivalent to a mirrorless 7DII.

Anyone have any ideas on how many megapixels Sony might squeeze into this body?

What if it’s an APS-C a9... that costs $3,000?

$3000 is a big ask for APS-C....it would have to tick every box on my list and wow me in some unexpected way to pay that much.

Olympus seems to think they can ask that much for a smaller sensor. Not sure how many they sell, and it did make me sell all my Olympus gear, but upscale seems to be the direction camera manufacturers are going.
I doubt we'll get the mini-A9 too, so I've resigned myself to thinking of the A7R4 and selling my A6400. It's a very capable little camera, but the form factor is tough to use.

You sold your Olympus gear because they came out with a camera you thought was too expensive? What about just not buying that particular camera?

Not that I would buy one but specs of Canon's new M6 II look pretty impressive on paper:

32.5MP APS-C sensor.

14fps continuous shooting with AF/AE (autofocus/automatic exposure),

30fps RAW bursts using the electronic shutter.

Eye AF too.

Yep, this is exactly my hope. If not … I guess its the A7RIV.

SAR has full specs on both cameras. a6100 and a6600.

a6100 looks to be an a6400 without log video and with a lower res EVF. a6600 is an a6400 with IBIS, a larger grip and takes the Z batteries.

Two new lenses: E 16-55/2.8G and E 70-350 G.

Z battery is reason enough for this to be on my wishlist. With the 16-55 (assuming it's not $2000) it looks like I'm going back to APSC. Fun times ahead.

The link in SAR for the a6600 spec sheet goes to the a6100. Here is the a6600 link

Disappointing. Although I like the z battery no advanced af system makes this a no go for me. Glad I didn’t wait for this and went ahead and got an a6400 upon release. Personally I don’t need ibis as the 200-600 and 100-400 have it in lens and I use a battery grip with the 6400 anyways to make the ergos better.

I was hoping they'd release a Sony version of the XT3. This is really disappointing. Time to keep saving my pennies for the a9ii

Yep, disappointing. The A9II better impress. It appears Sony is the new Canon.

I think it is a very solid update for a big chunk of users. People wanting the high-end stuff aren't targeted with this camera.
However, the new AF system, Z battery, Real time tracking + eye-AF for video, 4k/30P, new EVF makes for a very capable camera, more than a match for most amateur photographers around.

No, they came out with a camera that played to the weakness’s of their system instead of their strengths. In short it was a big picture decision that encompassed the sagging market, and in short, their AF wasn’t that great even with high-end bodies, difficulty with subject isolation on a small sensor, plus other reasons. Their emx signalled to me that it was time to change systems. The Sony A9 has spoiled me for what to expect in a mirrorless camera, and I figured it was only a matter of time till the 200-600 showed up. I still keep an m1mark2 and 60mm macro around because the focus stacking is excellent and the extra depth of field is handy at times.

Extremely happy with this. Especially the 70-350 if its compact and light and as good as 70-300 FF.

Have to look into this more but one a backup to my A7rIV with same battery that’s huge. Intriguing is the lens the 16-55 2.8 looks solid

All of these features except for the z battery are already in the a6400. Again it’s an exact duplicate of the a6400 including max shutter speed, FPS, real time tracking, af coverage etc. don’t think Its worth an upgrade if your already shooting long glass with ibis which is my only use for an apsc and I suspect for a lot of other users as well.

I like the idea of an a6600 with a 10-18mm/4 and the new 16-55/2.8 plus one prime, probably the Sony 24mm/1.4, as a nice small travel kit.
