The 75/1.5 VM doesn’t disappoint really. On a side note, I rented a Gfx50r with the 110/2 Gf lens, it really gives the 75/1.5 and 85GM a run for its money. Here’s the 75/1.5 VM at work (disregard the exif for lens choice).

Are you able to test the CV 75 f/1.5 on your GFX50r to see how much of the sensor it covers? That is a question that I have been wondering about.

Just finalized my review: https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-voigtlander-75mm-f1-5-vm

Thanks to Genji and David I could compare crops taken with the M10 and at closer distance i don't see much of a difference in the center beyond the obvious AA vs no AA difference but at 1 m there is significantly less astigmatism so I would use the Voigtlander without hesitation at f/2 where it sometimes needs f/2.8 on Sony.

If Cosina realizes that level of performance on a hypothetical E-mount version I would be very tempted to get one. My current light hiking tele is the Zeiss 2.8/90 in a proper focus helix but it is a bit harsh at f/2.8, I lose a good stop of DOF over the CV and it has only ok sunstars and isn't as flare resistant. The Voigtlander would be a bit short but still would fit in well with my 3.5/21 and 1.2/40. My "weight is less of an issue" hiking lens is the Voigtlander 2.5/110 APO but that is a tad long and pretty heavy. Guess my ideal lens would be a Voigtlander 2/90 with similar optical qualities.

Fred are you using focus peaking here? I am having trouble nailing focus with it on the 7r4 and have to turn focus peaking off to even come close. Def easier now without peaking, but if you use focus peaking would you be able to share some tips? Like, have the colored peaking overlay start slightly in front of the area in focus, or keep the target point (the eyes here) in the middle of the colored focus peaking overlay? Any help would be appreciated, with peaking it was very much quicker to focus but I had a large missed %. Thanks

On the A7R IV, I prefer turning peaking 'off'. I find that the new viewfinder res. makes it very easy to nail focus.

How does this lens compare to the Loxia 85? I feel like the Loxia is sharper and a touch contrastier across the frame/at all apertures but the 75VM has loads more character/transparency imo. It is also about 200g lighter and about a stop faster, which makes it more versatile for travel and portraits respectively.

Since you used both, how does it compare with the 7artisans 75 1.25?

I decided to purchase this lens. I was checking my review crops and could not believe how similar in resolution it is to the CV 65/2 APO. Rendering is full of character as well.
I will be using it on the Sony A7R4 and Leica M240.

Having both they are really interesting to compare. They both are excellent The 75 is of course not nearly as good close up, but the little bit longer focal length and wider aperture does work well for portraits. I think both are very nice for landscapes stopped down. I will be interested to see how you think the 75 compares on the two cameras.

Steve, did you ever find out how it does on the GFX? My 73mm Sonnetar works well wide open with full coverage and it's a small RF tele like this CV 75, though the 75 Lux though had hard vignetting.

The CV 75 f/1.5 is pretty nice on the GFX. I like it quite a bit as a portrait lens with a 4 X 5 aspect ratio. If I use it in 4 X 3 aspect ratio, I can bring up the corners, but they are a little ugly, so I am fine with 4 X 5 especially for portraits. I like it enough as a portrait lens that I sold my Leica R 80 f/1.4, which is saying something because that was a really nice lens on the GFX. The Leica R sure has nice bokeh, and the CV isn't quite as good there, but the much better sharpness wide open and especially stopped down to f/2 is much appreciated on the CV. I also like the really small size of the CV, whereas the Leica R is ok, but bigger than I would ideally want. We'll see when Fuji brings out the GF 80 f/1.7 (I may choose that over the CV 75), but for now I am happy with the CV.

Since writing my CV 75/1.5 VM review, I was curious to see how it performed on a Leica body. On the Sony, there is moderate FC so I am wondering if it would be more tamed on a thinner sensor stack. If the field curvature is no longer an issue on the Leica, I am very confident it will perform even more similarly to the CV 65/2. We just need that 47MP Leica M10-R now.

Regarding other Voigtlander lenses on the Leica. Yesterday I tested the CV 12/5.6 VM, Color-Skopar 21mm f/3.5 VM (vintage line) and CV 50/3.5 Heliar lenses on both Sony and Leica. I already knew the CV 12/5.6 performed the same on Sony and Leica but I was surprised that was also true for the 21mm and 50mm lenses. I've downsampled the 60MP file to 24mm and compared them side by side. Same FC characteristics and pretty much identical resolution and contrast across the field. The main difference is that LaCA is not automatically corrected but that's just a click in LR.

For those who want to use these lenses on both Sony and Leica, I highly recommend the: CV 12/5.6 VM, CV 21/3.5 VM, CV 35/1.2 VM, CV 50/3.5 VM and CV 75/1.5 VM. I didn't receive the latter yet but will post my results. I expect it to be only lens to perform better on the Leica but we'll see.

Just recently I updated our VM 75mm 1.5 review with some findings on the Leica M10:
https://phillipreeve.net/blog/review-voigtlander-75mm-f1-5-vm/

Long story short:
Very similar at portrait distances, better at infinity on M10.
But not a 2/65.

PS: Maybe state which version of the 12mm 5.6 you are talking about (I guess III).
The earlier ones should show abyssmal color cast on the M240 and very "interesting" asymmetrical color cast on M10.

PPS: I would not wholeheartedly recommend the M-mount 35mm 1.2 III to Sony users.
Field curvature (ugly corner bokeh) at longer focus distances would be too high for my taste.

Thanks Bastian. I should get my CV 75/1.5 tomorrow and that gives me hope it performs better on the Leica.

BTW, I used the CV 12/5.6 III. (Not version II)

Regarding the CV 35/1.2 III, I do not see any field curvature at the corners (infinity) on the Sony which surprised me. There is a very tiny curvature at mid-field but I have to look at 2:1 to see it. I saw the image you posted showing sharp corners for the OOF corner and that puzzled me. I'm waiting for another copy as mine could not focus at infinity on the Leica (hard stop).

My thoughts exactly - until the Samyang 75/1.8 was announced. The Samyang will be available soon(er), at nearly half the weight and cost, and have AF. Seems Voigtlander dragged their feet on getting this lens on the market in e-mount, and now has some stiff competition. The CV is a little faster, but doesn't perform all that well wide open, especially at close focus. The Samyang is probably sharper across the frame with both lenses at at f/1.8, and I tend to like its bokeh better. Starting with the 85/1.4, I think Samyang has come a long way in the bokeh department.

I had the Sony 85/1.8 a never liked it on a few counts.
