One of the few perks of going to Venice in the middle of summer is that very few people are up for sunrise at 5 am, and you get San Marco square all for yourself A couple of seconds exposure with my Demo Hasselblad X1D II, Hasselblad XCD 21mm and Formatt-Hitech Firecrest Ultra filters.

Thank you for viewing, best regards

Lucky for you: no aqua alto. A precious early morning shot. But now Venetians are fed up with hordes of tourists, and large cruise ships are banned from the Giudecca canal.

Your "up early" idea works for me in all sort of places — especially in Florence/Firenze, which can also be quite a zoo later in the day. Very early in the morning the streets can be almost empty, and a bit later (but still early by tourist standards) the locals begin to emerge.

:-)

Good to see that the scaffolding on the Basilica is gone!

Acqua Alta can be a fun experience. Here's a shot at 11:30pm.

But not high enough (water) Did you notice the stacked sidewalk scaffolding next to the San Marcos Church? Maybe today they stack it somewhere else.

Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it! About the ban, I must definitely hope it will be true, but I have heard that so many times that I'll believe it when I'll see it...

Acqua alta can make for great photography, but July and august are the months were you less risk to find them (though they are not unknown to happen):
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statistiche_dell%27acqua_alta_a_Venezia The article is in Italian, but the graphs are very easy to understand. I find it very interesting to see the increase in the frequency of very high tides in Venice, as well as the appearance of ultra-high tides (over 140 cm) which were never seen before. This should be interesting especially for those denying climate change, which unfortunately is happening and doesn't care about whether someone denies it or not.

Best regards,

Vieri
