Have been going to Yellowstone in the middle of the winter. My first trip in 2016, yielded not much except setting the expectation of what to expect. For someone from the eastern reaches of India that relocated to California 30 years ago, negative Fahrenheit temperatures, had to be experienced. The sights and the first experience taught me that the benefits were more rewarding than the pain. In 2018 went looking for the bobcats along the Madison, instead got treated to some canine activity and memories of a lifetime. The Wapiti pack had been active and made several kills. I was fortunate to have been taken to an Elk kill and observe the pack behavior for more than 6 hours standing in knee deep snow.
The naive Californian (from India) equipped with a water-proof hiking boot, but other warm layers stuffed the shoe with hand warmers and stood still to experience the pack.
