Erosional forces are prevalent in many areas of the desert southwest US, which provides some interesting photo opportunities. Sometimes the birds' eye view provides a perspective that is other worldly. This lighter color clay soils at the top of the cliff adds special interest to this scene as it looks like donut frosting to me!
Cheers

Ken,

This is phenomenal and literally out of the world. When was this image shot (which time of the year). Is the "crust" frost or is it the bentonite? I did spend sometime in the southwest for my field work as a geologist, eons ago and just love the land. Thank you for this presentation and perspective.

This looks a lot like the formations near Hanksville, UT, but it's not quite a match. Where abouts was this?

Greetings! Thanks for the kind words! This was taken in June, so the soil was a just a lighter bentonite. Even from the ground this place is interesting, but from the air a bizarre world presented itself.
Cheers

Now that you suggest it, I see what you are referring to, Adam. Seems like every time I view this I envision something completely different!
Cheers!
