p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Fuji X-H1 settings

Since, I’m new to Fuji, I was wanted to outline the setting I have set so far and hope to get tips to improve on it.

Dial settings

1. ISO: Set “A” in the ISO dial to command, and the second click on the front command dial to ISO
That way I can quickly get to ISO with my grip hand for quick one handed action.

2. Exposure compensation button (Fn1):
a. Set exposure composition button to “s” (switch). So pressing and releasing this button activates exposure compensation.
b. Setting rear command dial to exposure compensation when Fn1 in step “a” is activated.
You get the exposure compensation dial back with this simple setup.

3. Function buttons
Fn1 - exposure compensation on and off toggle
Fn2 - Shutter (easily choose electronic only shutter for silent shooting - default electronic front curtain)
Fn3 - face/eye AF selection
Fn4 - Film Simulations
Fn5 - AF-C
Fn6 - ISO Ranges (Auto1 : 200-800, Auto2 : 200-1600, Auto3 : 200-6400)
The others stay as default.

4. AF Mode set to All. I’m using the AF lever (joy stick) to select the mode by pressing it and rotating the front command dial to cycle through single point, zone and wide/Tracking). This puts everything as a one handed operation using the grip hand.
My default is single fine point, but I can easily chose the others as needed.

5. Front command dial - first click set to aperture, second click set to ISO and third click set to Shutter speed. This ensures that aperture, iso and Shutter speed settings are at your finger tips for one hand operation.

6. Shutter priority : set shutter dial to “T” and set front command dial to “SS” (third click). So you can change shutter speed with the grip hand. Second clicking of the front dial results in ISO mode as in step 1.

7. The A in the aperture ring in my 16-55 2.8 set to command. First click in the front command dial (use this as default in aperture priority) can change Aperture as set in step 5.

8. I.Q. Menu :
- image quality set to F+ Raw
- Raw recording set to compressed lossless
- highlight tone set to -1 (preserve highlights for recovery)

9. AF/MF menu
- AF mode set to All (see 4)
- AF+MF set to on
- MF Assist set to Peak (High/Red)
- focus check on
- interlock spot AE & Focus Area on
- instant AF setting set to AF-C
- Release/Focus priority (AF-S : Focus, AF-C : Release)

10. Video
- movie mode set to 4K, 24p, 200 mbps
- film simulation set to Eterna
- movie AF mode set to multi
- movie silent control set to on (have not figured how this works as yet)

11. My Menu
Self timer
Interval timer
IS mode
Multi exposure
Audio settings

Thanks

One little setting I liked was having the shutter button AF disabled in AF-C, so I could do back button AF, but having the shutter button AF turned on in AF-S. That way, I could operate in AF-C 99% of the time, but if I handed the camera to a stranger, I just had to flip the cam to AF-S and it would function normally like they were used to.
