Looking at the raw image (with dcraw) it seems that the actual sensor resolution is 9568 x 6376 (plus there is an additional masked strip of 32 pixels width at the right: the "raw raw" width is 9600). And that extra resolution with a good looking image.
So if the official resolution of 9504 x 6336 accounts for 35.7 x 23.8 mm, the actual size using the right development tool it would be 35.94 x 23.95
Since 9568/6376 = 1.5006, a proper aspect ratio, it is strange that Sony has decided to crop out nearly 1 MP of data...

I have not checked out the specs but.. usually when they list the "sensor" size in a document like that they are listing the physical size of the package which is not just the sensor array.
Like we got used to digital medium-format which was even tried to be sold as "large format" with the Fuji GFX 100. This a bit smaller sensor could be called "advanced FF sensor format". Sounds good but is meaningless technically but distinguishes itself from the traditional FF format...
Is there a definition? I mostly read that the size needs to be _approximately_ 36mm x 24mm.
There is a long history of non-FF cameras if 36mmx24mm needs to be an exact measure (Canon 6d: 35.8 x 23.9 mm, Z7,D850: 35.9 x 23.9 mm, D810, D750: 35.9 x 24 mm, D5: 35.8 x 23.9 mm, D4, D4s, D3s, Sony A73, A9 etc., just to name a few).

Sony has never made a full-35mm frame sensor - they always come up a bit short in the pixel-dimension department - but I guess that is consistent with their undersized lens mount diameter.
Maybe now GDan will start hanging out on this forum so he can educate people about the Sony "mini-FF" cameras...
