Other standout movie features include Slog3 for 14-stops of dynamic range, Hybrid log gamma, no time limit on recording, plus real-time Eye AF for movies for the first time on any Alpha camera.
Also appears that some features (apparently real time tracking) will be added to the A7R III via firmware update:
Other stand-out focusing features include the addition of real time eye AF, real time AF tracking, and animal eye AF, which have all recently made their debut on other Alpha cameras via firmware updates.
Sony also told us that these updates will make there way to the A7R III in a future firmware update.
Hasn't the time limit on recording thing has always been an artificial limitation due to EU tax law? I can see people being annoyed if Sony CAN bring this to older bodies via firmware, but choose not to.
The real time AF tracking on the other hand I am surprised to learn can be added via firmware and I'd love it on my A7III, but I get why they wouldn't do that.
Yes and the EU law is now expired. The a6400 didn’t ship with the limitation for that reason. I would actually prefer that change to be added to existing mark III bodies even more than the other improvements offered by the IV, but it’s really unclear from the article what Sony meant exactly.

Has anyone found another source stating this? If so: that’s huge. Adding real-time tracking to the A7RIII and A7III would be a great way to keep these cameras relevant and force Canon and Nikon to be even more competitive.
I am not sure series III cameras have sufficient computational power to allow real time tracking, even at only 20 times per second (A9 has 60/second AF computations, A7RIV has updated Bionz X, at least, I expect so).
If the legal issues regarding recording time limit for video is gone, I wonder if that may also apply to the limits on long exposure timing for stills. No reason at all technically for a 30 second limit before having to go to Bulb Mode. Hopefully a firmware update could give that to previous bodies as well.

Does EyeAF for movies work in 4K?
Currently 'face detection' for the A7R III only seem to work in 1080P.
Face detection does work in 4K on the R3. It is disabled when you are using hdmi output while recording in camera.
As far as I can tell from the hands on videos, eye af works in 4K, and according to Jason Vong, also when using an hdmi monitor.
The Fn menu can be set differently for video mode, which is something I've been hoping for.

With the A7R III (ver. 3.01) + XAVC S "4K", A white box around my subject's face only appears initially but quickly disappears and focus does not stick to the face...
In XAVC S HD, face detection works continuously for the entire duration of the video. PS: I'm not using HDMI out or proxy.
