p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · GFX 23 and T/S 24 L II for Europe trip?

I'm going to Paris, Luxemburg, Ghent, Bruges for a couple of weeks. I'm trying to decide if I just take my 23 or get an adapter and also take my T/S 24 II. I'm going to be taking lots of streets/building shots and having the T/S to correct the distortion in camera was a joy last time I went with all Canon gear.

If I do take the T/S 24 and need to get an adapter which one should I get? I only need aperture control as I do not have any autofocus canon lenses to adapt.

Thanks,
Rick

If I know in advance that I will mainly be shooting architectural, I take the TSe. The quality is not far off the 23mm. I use the Kipon adapter.

Do you really need AF for architecture? Get an adapter (Kipon or Steelsring, NOT Techart). Leave the GF23 at home.

It's a bit slow to use in practice, but there is a Kipon adapter which is more or less a clone of the Cambo CA-GFX adapter that has a very wide throat, only obstructed by the EF contact pinset.

Kipon GFX-EF-E

Or, just opt for any of the "smart" adapters that allow you to control the aperture on your TS-E 24mm II. The baffles are more extensive than the GFX-EF-E adapter, I can't tell you if there's a difference when shifting the lens vertically as I don't know.

Kipon GFX-EF AF

The cost differential between the above is under 12% so choose what you think works best. Or order both and eat the return shipping on the one you don't like.

I use a FotodioX smart adapter. It works fine and I haven’t had any problems with it. I’ve used the 17, 24, 50 and 90 macros and they all work decent. I have the 23 and it’s sharper as one would expect, but you need to have it near level or the distortion becomes a problem. (Which is why I use the the TS-Es more often than not.) Here’s hoping a gf TS-E is on the near horizon.

If you don't want to lay out money, stop down your 24 ts-e to f/11 and use a dumb adapter. I would do this any day, and in fact I did it for months with the 19mm pc-e.

When I go in Europe, I use the TS-E 17mm for architecture. Streets are usually narrower.

I have been using the Steelsring EF/GFX adapter and so far it's working great.

Thanks for all of the replies and information. I got hold of an adapter and tested my TS-e 24mm against my GFX 23mm and I have to say the TS-e is rather disappointing. In the center of the frame it isn't too bad but anywhere out to the edges is pretty bad. Using Capture One Keystoning tool on the 23mm test image I ended up not quite wide enough image after correction but the detail in the image is so much better throughout.

I posted comparisons of these two lenses here a few months ago. Check the link, starting about 1/3 down the page:

Looks pretty consistent between your and my results. Probably little lens variation there.

I've compared them side by side. Exactly the same at f/11.
