A few days ago, getting ready to head out on an errand, I happened to spot this hawk on the power pole arm in our back yard, obviously scanning the ground for a meal. I had to go in the house, grabbing my D750 and Nikkor 200-500 f/5.6. I grabbed around a dozen shots in each location. The ones on the power pole arm were all at 500 mm, and those on the fence were done at 200mm (I was only around 12 feet away). The bird was evidently a pet, since it had the remnants of a tether, but no Dept of Natural Resources band. I originally had it pegged as a goshawk, but others have ID'd it as a red sparrow hawk (too light?) or a rough legged hawk (seems the legs are too smooth).
