This bird showed up today right next to our house, and (I'd like to think) might be the same one that hung around our house a couple of years ago. Would settle into a branch just outside of our family room and just look at us. Hung out over in a tree directly over out driveway and would watch us come and go. I love these birds... so friendly and their look pierces your soul. I can see why there's so much mysticism associated with them. Shot with a 90 macro of all lenses... but not much of an issue since he let me get within 4 meters.
How are the barred owls doing in the RVA area? Here in the burg they are getting to be as common as squirels and bald eagles :-) Serrioulsy seems like our population base is, fortunately, very healthy.

I haven't been out looking for them in a while. Before I retired, I used to work near an area whith several nesting pairs, but it's a bit of a drive now.
Nice job and I hope he hangs out for a good long time. So cool he's hanging out just outside your window. Maybe you should ask him if he likes Netflix and make up a bowl of popcorn to share it with him.
