Anyone still on B&H’s pre order queue just got moved up one, just cancelled my pre order. Mine delivers on Wednesday from District Camera. They are now showing sold out so it looks like I got one of their last ones.

Pretty lame review of the lens. He talks mostly about how to shoot soccer and the A9, not the lens.

I quit watching PMR videos awhile ago...biggest Sony fanboy I've come across, seems to have no objectivity...and often spews out incorrect specs/info etc.

As mentioned somewhere else, Sony did anticipate that this lens would be in demand and they would not be caught off guard again like in the case of the GM 24mm. So far, it looks like Sony did come through with their “pledge/promise” of providing ample supply of this lens.

I got mine today but lot of good it does. Without a dovetail lens foot I am stuck to handholding F6.3 and ISO 1600 with a shutter 1/250th doesn't cut it with squirrels and birds who eat and move too fast.

Who is not using a gimbal or at least a Arca Swiss type head on their tripods these days?

What are Canon and Sony thinking about when they include lens feet that virtually nobody uses or in my case can use. Does anyone have a tripod these days with a 3/8" screw to mount your camera or lens on to?

The dovetail sure does not hurt anything and if Wimberly sells them at a profit for $79 the lens makers have their head of their rear ends for not supplying them.

So I anxiously await the arrival and Oh crap I didn't order a lens foot to use it. RRS is sold out and backordered of course so I ordered two Wimberly lens feet for the 200-600G and my 600 GM that shows up tomorrow. Wow now I wait until Thursday since I did not get my order in on time for 2nd day Wed.

I have a whole drawer full of old RRS, Kirk, and Wimberley long lens plates so I can accommodate pretty well any long lens that comes along.

So do I but they are all 1/4" and I will never use a lens plate on $13,000 lenses and $3,500 to $4,500 cameras to a screw-in lens plate. I do not like them and I do not trust them. I have had way too many loosen up with much lighter weight shorter lenses.

When you are walking around the Zoo or birding for hours on end with a monopod or right shoulder a long heavy rig like a 400 or 600GM have way too much torque to trust a lens plate with a screw holding it to the Sony lens foot. With my tripod I use a Wimberley Gimbal and nothing is more secure than a bolted (4 bolts) on dovetail lens foot.

Good news for PeakDesign 20L Backpackers that shoot the new Sony G 200-600. Fits nicely lengthwise (OEM foot attached to the lens) mounted to the A9 with in my case, the smaller Sony Extension Grip attached to the camera, hood reversed. Nice fit, not stuffed. Long side panels allows easy access when you swing the pack around to the front ( like a sling). No need to take this pack off for access. More room on the other side of the pack for GM 24-70 mounted to A7rIII and longer lenses too and room in the middle dividers for another prime or two depending on size+ accessories.

You're probably using the plates wrong if you're worried about silly things like that... but maybe that explains why you paid $13,000 for a $2000 lens?

I don't think so and I am talking about the big whites, my Canon 500 F4 and 600 F4 I previously had and now my 400GM and as of tomorrow my 600GM.

A screw-in a plate that attaches to another lens foot is not my idea of secure. With the Wimberley or RRS bolt on lens feet (4 bolts) I can shake my monopod or tripod even with 8.5lbs attached and all the bulk and it is secure as hell. That is the way I like it!

I can guarantee my 200-600 will never attach itself to a tripod, monopod or any support. So I'm not worried about lack of foot options. The only reason I may buy a replacement foot for the 200-600 is if the stock foot feels too short for the way I handhold and carry the lens.

I do prefer a full foot replacement over attaching a plate to the stock foot....feels more secure to me.

For Florida nature walks, I'll be hand holding the G 200-600. Am going to try to fit with the same neck strap supprt system I used for the Tamron 150-600. Way too hot/humid this time of year for any sort of backpack while walking the trails/wetlands.

2. OP/TECH USA 1301412 Lens Loops. (For long lens support. Loops fit around the lens near the mount )

I share your concern about this. While I'm waiting for the RRS replacement foot, I'm using a long plate* with an anti-twist bar at the front, and using two 1/4" screws (one with an adapter into the 3/8" socket). It's not going anywhere.

I use a long plate as well when using a Wimberly-like Gimbal and Tripod with the Tamron 150-600 G1, but I also tend to use this kit mostly handheld with neck strap ( see my comment above) so I can move quickly to wherever the wild life is. Hoping I can do the same with the G 200-600. So far no issues with the long plate, but I haven't used it with any big heavy super tele primes yet.

I do find the anti-twist bar at the front of the long plate MikeEvangelist posted interesting. Seems like a good secure design.

Just now got my Dell cancellation confirmation! Yay! Took them five hours to confirm my cancellation but they finally came through. I'm virtually certain they didn't have the lens in stock. Pretty loose operation IMHO.

In the meanwhile, shortly after you posted about ProCam I cruised over to their web site and was able to nab what I think was the last one they had in stock. Shipping today. Got my UPS tracking number! Should be in my hands by Friday. And I saved a couple hundred dollars to boot compared to Dell.

So thanks very much for the tip

The lens was just delivered! Did they ship yours yesterday?

Just noticed that the Lightoom update which came out today adds a profile for 200-600mm lens.

You have it on backwards... the anti=twist flanges goes at the back of the tripod foot (if you want it to work properly).

Any really big telephotos will let you attach the plate with more than one screw, and from an engineering standpoint, two 1/4" screws are stronger than the 4 dinky little screws that attach the foot to the barrel of the lens.

I too ordered from dell after reading this blog. Was assured the lens was in stock although I queried with them why it was not going to ship until August 23. No real answer. I was emailed by dell a day later asking me to confirm my Amex. I then received a call from the agent who again assured me the lens was in stock and will be delivered on 23rd. After reading others experiences, I will cancel if I can find one in stock elsewhere.
