Great video and pictures, There is a certain time during the development of the babies (Heard calling in the fishing video) that the adults will fish small ponds and streams for fish, cray fish, frogs, snakes etc. Usually with the crayfish the adults will eat the heads and the remains go to the babies. In all the years of photographing Barred Owls they seem to fish for about 3-4 weeks before moving back to other prey such as, Rabbits, Mice, Squirrels and whatever else they can find.
Thanks. In this case, it was simply an easy and unusual opportunity for the owl. Beavers had blocked a culvert going under a road, forcing the water to flow over the road. A few salmon fry simply floated over the road in only two inches of water making a very visible target that was easy picking for the owl that was perched in a tree at the side of the road.
