Open post to Cosina: Do a 28mm of the same general design and performance as the 21/3.5, same aperture, it would sell in large numbers. You went with f3.5 and f1.4 at 21mm, now let's see a redux at 28mm, one of each.

Personally, I'd LOVE a 28mm f/2 Ultron, optimized for Sony with similar mechanics as my 21mm f/3.5 and 40mm f/1.2. Would fit perfectly in between. And no need to be smaller than that for me.

28mm is also my most wanted lens from Cosina for e-mount. I hope they get to it in their next release group... Ideally I'd like a 28/2 that is lighter than 350g, but I'd also be very happy with a 28/3.5 at around 250g or less (similar size to 21/3.5). A bigger and heavier 28/1.4 would be the 3rd choice. This could be a very nice walk-around lens for daily use and for that purpose it should not be too big and heavy.

Have you ever tried a Ricoh GR III?

No, but I did read / watch some reviews as it seems interesting. For my walk-around use I definitely want an EVF though and better battery life. I have an RX1R as a smallish fixed lens camera but lack of EVF made me less enthusiastic about using it after a while. I also have a small Avenon 28/3.5 LTM lens that I use with an adapter on my A9 and it works nicely (1m MFD though), but still waiting for a nice native MF 28mm as well.

I did really like the sound of this one. The CV40/1.2 is going nowhere - I adore that lens & is used constantly. I also have the CV21/3.5 which is also lovely for landscapes. I recently picked up a Samyang 24/1.4 which is a bigger & heavier but it is for Astro only.....

Do I swap the two for the CV21/1.4? Guess it all depends on it's Astro ability..... I'm not sure I want to give up the f/3.5 though.....

I might be willing to trade in my Loxia 21 if the performance of this lens is good.

Seems everyone is shy of CV’s reputation of field curvature, Coma, etc. I predict that, stopped down to F2.8, it could be a hero. Looks like there may not be enough glass in the design for optimum performance at F1.4 (unlike the excellent Sony 24GM).

Yes, I would definitely be expecting a 'character' lens wide open, with any luck though it will be a solid astro and landscape performer stopped down a little. If it offers excellent astro performance by f2.8 it would be a buy for me I think.

If it is 'good' by f/2.8 than it is NOT a hero...
It is a hero if you can shoot astro wide open without worring about coma (ie).

Just curious if there have been any more images posted from this lens.

Fred - any idea when you’ll get your copy for testing?

I recently made the mistake of selling my Loxia 21 and want to replace it. I loved the Loxia, but I like the specs on the fast CV 21. It’s only a bit bigger and heavier than the Loxia, and, well, f/1.4. The CV is $400 cheaper than the Loxia. I prefer CV lens ergonomics over the Loxias.

But I want the best IQ, and the Loxia 21 will be hard to beat in terms of IQ. I’ll use the lens for landscapes, architecture, environmental, and astro.

It would fill this hole:

Laowa 15/2
(21mm hole of despair)
CV 40/1.2
CV 65/2
CV 110/2.4

Decisions....

I think mid-June is a placeholder set by some US stores. Cosina hasn't announced a specific date yet (only June) and their other June releases got announced for 6/12. I think this one will be released around the last week of June. Cameraquest listing also estimated that it would ship in the last week of June.

Will be following reviews of this. A moderately sized 21/1.4 for 1100 would be very interesting to me if it is a stellar performer both wide open and stopped down.

I also crave a stunning 28 in the 24/1.4GM vein. Something reasonably sized with AF and amazing performance. I do have the Ricoh GR3 - and love it - but would love a FF equivalent. It is probably my favorite FL. The Sigma version is just too large for street shooting (where I would use a 28 most).

As they fill out their products, a forward lens release program (say two years' worth) for Cosina would be a great idea for the growing number of photographers learning about this eccentric but addictive brand, especially now their potential audience has grown with high quality E> adapters coming to market for new Z-R-P users.
