Features in Detail: (translated)
  1. Sony E mount: Equipped with an electronic contact, the Exif information of the shooting data reflects the usage of the lens. In addition, since it has a built-in distance encoder, it supports 5-axis camera shake correction on the camera body side. You can also zoom in on the finder by operating the focus ring.

  2. Optimized optical design: In addition to securing a full-size image circle, it adopts an optical design optimized for the Sony E mount sensor. High resolution is maintained to the periphery of the screen, and phenomena such as color cast are suppressed.

  3. Manual focus that enables reliable focusing: Smooth operation feeling focusing is realized by adoption of high quality grease that produces a moderate torque and a total metal helicoid unit processed and adjusted with high accuracy. It enables subtle focus adjustment.

  4. Minimum shooting distance 25 cm: The shortest shooting distance from the subject to the imaging plane is 25 cm. The intense perspective peculiar to super wide-angle lens and the image which made the depth of focus stand out are possible.

  5. Aperture click switching mechanism: Equipped with an aperture switching mechanism that can open and close the aperture ring steplessly without generating a click sound. There is no need to worry about picking up the aperture ring operation sound during movie recording.

I already have the 24GM and the Loxia 21, so my wide angle primes are pretty well covered. But that being said, the 24GM is just slightly tighter than I like for astro, and June would be just in time for Milky Way/Galactic Core season...

Well just got a Batis 18, have the Cv 21 f3.5 and a Sony 24 . I think I’m able to pass on this one. Lol

I’m interested in performance, and to see how much wider it is than the 24GM. Could be a great lens for environmental portraits

I just got the CV 21/3.5 and I love the size and don't really need a wider aperture at this focal length so I choose small over fast.

I don't need a 24 and a 21, so it would have be be absolutely stellar to get me to budge from the 24mm GM.

Could be another great lens though, so here's hoping for that!

Based on how the older Voigtlander 21/1.4 M performs wide open, I'm not optimistic about the coma performance of this revised version for astro. Seems like a fun lens though.

From comparing my 24GM and Loxia 21, there is a significant difference between 21 and 24 in my opinion.

The coma performance would definitely be key. If it doesn't do astro well, I can't imagine it being much better than the Loxia 21 for landscapes.

I'm interested, will wait for a few reviews and see how it differs from the current CV21

I'm definitely interested, but like others have said, coma performance wide open will probably not be all that great. Maybe if it cleans up by 1.8 I'll look into it. It's certainly bigger, hopefully that means it's well-corrected.

I don't think there ever was a Voigtlander 21 f/1.4 before this for Leica M or any mount. Are you thinking of the 21 f/1.8? If so, this looks like a very different design. I still have lots of worries about the coma as in small lenses designing for low coma is often one of the first goals to give up on, but we'll see soon.

My opinion is that’s waste of a lens. The Loxia 21 has that FL covered for MF users. ***Stands by for the 101 ways this is a totally different lens from what I mentioned.***

I suppose astro shooters are excited?

It better be really good wide open and excellent by f/2.8.
I have the 21/3.5 which is great for travel.

I also still have the Lox 21/2.8 for really perfect landscapes, but it's not that much faster and significantly heavier/larger than the 21/3.5

The 21/1.4 would be a specialty lens for sure. Sometimes you need a wide angle with all the photon gathering capability you can get

During travels I at times struggle with lenses like the Batis 25 or the Sony 28 as when it gets dim, I need to really boost up the ISO. I'd welcome a fast 21 for those occasions when I need the extra light it brings.

With all else equal I definitely prefer physical MF over focus by wire for astro work, so if it does control coma well at 1.4 (a big if, for sure) I would consider looking at it over the 24 GM.

I'm really interested in how this lens performs for astro and also how it performs in close up work. It will be cool to keep an eye on.

If I were buying new, I'd consider it over a Loxia 21 maybe. As much as I like astro and don't care about coma performance, I am still iffy about the size over a Loxia 21 or CV 21/3.5. The Loxia feels so good in hand, until you have to remove the Zeiss cap and mount/unmount it with 1 hand...

Definitely waiting on this one. For how I'd use it, it has to be good for Astro or there's no point for me to move on from the 21 3.5

I want this for environmental portraits (wide open) and landscape and street (stopped down). I don't really care about coma, so unless they really fumble this I'm definitely going to buy it.
