We live adjacent to open farmland and rumours have it that there are about 40 pheasants roaming locally. Certainly. we get up to 18 on a winter morning. Recently, this has reduced to one cock and two hens, the other hens presumed to be nesting elsewhere.
I put out mixed poultry seed to supplement their diet, so they are comfortable with me being close.
I purchased my "Pan/Leica" 100-400mm for opportunist bid shots, as well as dragonflies. It would be easy to overlook these colourful birds.
Olympus EM-1 (aperture priority), Panasonic 100 - 400mm Leica DG Vario-Elmar at 400mm 1/125 at f8 and 156mm 1/125 at f5.6, ISO 800, hand-held.
These were shot a week apart but it is the same bird. The first was in the middle of the afternoon, the second in early morning light.
