Here in the Pacific Northwest we have a lot of snails and slugs. I'm not a slug expert but I think this is a European Red Slug which is one of about 4 types we have in Washington State. It is amazing how fast the guy move.

Yes, Arion ater. It is that colour in the south of UK, black in the north. Juveniles can be white.
