Wouldn’t make sense since I still got the Batis 85 and 135.

That's odd. My Rokinon 35 1.4 came with a +1. I'll have to plug in my 45 to check the offset. Will report back.

I have read somewhere that the lens AF settings using their dock are adjusted by Samyang and vary from lens to lens. If it’s not set to zero, I would not change.

I worked in an industry where we built out own sensors ( camera, lasers, LED's all in a box ). We spent a lot of effort and cost ensuring everything was properly aligned and every sensor we shipped out was as perfect as we could possibly get it.

Now the catch...these sensors cost $30,000. If you are willing to pony up the cost of the extra QA required to ensure every lens going out of the plant is perfect...then I'm sure the manufacturer will oblige. Big problem is...no one will pony up to the cost.

I picked up a replacement copy of the Zony 55mm this morning, gave it a test, and it's perfect.
I didn't have to "pony" up any extra cost for the QA that should be done correctly before shipping from the manufacturer.

I’m wondering if I should go back to minus 3 as that’s where I found out it to be . Like to know what the real meanings are of a positive or negative setting. Have not seen any documentation on that. Kind of weird.

I think their manual (pdf) instructs to leave the pre-set AF setting alone and it may not be set to zero. It varies from lens to lens.

You didn't pony up cost, but you did pony up time and aggravation. And what does the seller do with the return? Sell it as an open box to someone who will also now go through the same issue? Return it to Sony to be fixed? There is always some kind of cost for QA issues.

Concerning the Samyang's lens station use, I've found this webpage: https://www.samyanglensglobal.com/en/product/product-view.php?seq=372
It contains a video which may also be useful.

I just tested my copy and I'm impressed by it. It's sharp to the edges of the frame and rendering is smooth even a mid-distance. Luckily I received a centered copy. It's so light and could be the perfect companion to the FE 24/1.4 GM.

I would love to see what some pictures and what you think of it. I've reviewed every image I can find online and so far it looks to have almost the exact same rendering as my cheapy 50mm F1.8. I'm seriously hoping this isn't really the case because I'm desperate for a 35-45mm F2 or faster quality AF lens that can comfortably fit in a cargo shorts pocket!

There's a default button on the lens mount software but it always goes to 0. My version of the 45 was set to 0 whereas my 85 was set to - 1. I've found setting my 85 at 0 to be better.

The issue is that you don't know if your lens came with the intended af settings or not, specially if it's not performing within specifications. My 35 was also set at 0 when I got it for what it's worth.

You don't have the Batis 40 to compare it to do you?

I don't have the Batis 40/2 anymore but in my opinion, OOF rendering is not very smooth. The Batis differential is the high contrast (nice 3D), vivid colors and close-focus ability.
I don't think the Samyang renders any better, especially off-axis. The FE 50/1.4 ZA's rendering is smoother and lower in contrast compared to the Samyang and Batis but still can't match the Voigtlander 50/1.2's rendering. (or 40/1.2) (Link)

Here is a side-by-side comparison between the Samyang 45/1.8 vs FE 50/1.4 ZA @f/1.8. (Warning, this is a torture test)
The latter produces much smoother rendering in comparison. (especially off-axis)
The OOF area is also lower in contrast for the ZA.

Last crop comparison showing the focus area.

The Samyang is a very sharp and high contrast lens (even sharper than the 50/1.4 ZA at mid-field) but rendering is a bit harsh in comparison.

Glad you got a good one Fred. I did too it tested very nicely against the CV 50 1.2 . The Voightlander renders better but for a AF 45mm lens the Rokinon is working for me. My opinion if you get a nice copy it’s worth the money and in return you get a great little travel lens. Honestly don’t even know it’s on the camera.

I’m thinking of putting my -3 adjustment in the lens manager back to where I found it at -3. I wish we could confirm that the factory is testing it and making the new defaults as they come in. I just don’t have time to test for about a month

Interesting comparison with the 50/1.4 ZA. I should get my 45mm today or tomorrow. I’m also considering the ZA but not sure which one I would use the most. I think I’m going to rent the ZA and compare with the 45mm to decide.
Fred, the bokeh difference here is significant and also probably the worst case ?

The two best 50 options are the Sony ZA or the Voightlander 50 1.2 . ThisRokinon is quite good but not in the same rendering league as the two 50 . Still for the money this is nice to have as well as the other ones. That’s what I’m doing is this 45 and the CV 50 1.2 and others will use the 50 Sony. Both great options depending on what your trying to do.

I just came back from a 14-day trip to Portugal and only brought 2 AF lenses (24/1.4 GM and 50/1.4 ZA) and 2 MF lenses (CV 15/4.5 and CV 40/1.2). The ZA was by far the biggest and heaviest but always love the images it produces when I need AF on this range.
Personally I didn't mind its weight since I usually carried only 2 lenses in my PD Sling 5L. So, 24 + 50 (walk-around) or 15 + 24 (indoors, churches) or 24 + 40 (nighttime), so I would choose lenses depending on location. (used crop mode when needed as well)
The Samyang 45/1.8 is sharp and contrasty while rendering is ok. It really depends how much you care about it. Like Guy said, it's a great travel lens.

Here is another comparison. (Rok 45 vs ZA 50)
I'm sure you can tell which is which just based on rendering. (both at f/1.8)
