Will the Samyang 45/1.8 be internal focusing? If it is, the Sony 50/1.8 FE should be pretty dead...

At the same distance you have two very different photographs. Is this Samyang's idea of marketing?

I'm sure Samyang knows that a high resolution and pleasant rendering 35/1.8 would fly off the shelves. This smells like a close door agreement with Sony.

If it is half the weight as my B40 and as sharp/AF performance as their recently released 85 f1.4 then I could see replacing my B40 with it. Although, I don't have my hopes up for it being that good...

The Batis 40/2 is pretty light but the Samyang 45/1.8 seems to be way smaller. My hope is that the Samyang 45's rendering is smoother than the Batis.

Not necessarily. I can see at least a few reasons:

- if you're looking for "double Gauss" rendering style and the Samyang is not of such design

- if you're looking for very reliable but not necessarily fast AF (such as for stationary subjects)

- you don't really want to spend time and money with a "lens station"

Agreed. I am perfectly happy with the B40 as my general walk about/travel lens, but if this Samyang lens is just as good in performance and is smaller, lighter and provides a tad bit more blurring potential (5mm longer and 1.8 vs 2) then I don't really see why I wouldn't just pick this up.

If the AF is quick and quiet I probably will pick one, but the price is also a big factor.. I guess it will be around $350 at the announcement but will drop a bit since this is the "tradition" of Samyang.

I don't care too much whether it is sharp edge to edge. I really love the small and compact design.

I am interested in this. It will sit well between 24 and the FE85 which I just bought.

if its good, it could replace my samyang 35 2,8 the zony 55mm, and maybe the converted contax G 45mm.
we will see.

When I heard the rumors about this lens, I was not very interested. After all, I have their great (but not perfect) 35/1.8. But a 49mm filter thread? Now I have some thinking to do. A 45/85 is an awfully good pairing in gap. Throw in something in the 17-20mm range at around f/1.8-2, and I could very well own only Samyang primes. Which is a bit shocking of a thought.

I'll grab one if I have extra money at some point and it's around $300, but AF lenses tend to gather dust when I buy them, so not chomping at the bit here. I had both the FE 24 and 35/2.8- very positive experience with both, just never really used them enough to justify keeping. I do like the look of this one- nice and compact. Also like that it's 45mm rather than 50,and looking forward to hearing if it's closer to 42ish,which would be ideal.

Still hoping for a compact 90/2.8....

I bought both the 35 1.4 and the 35 2.8. Just updated them and Ill see which oneway work better but maybe keeping one and grabbing the 45 might not be a bad idea. These are cheap enough to test and find out.

I reordered my AF kit this morning. Grabbed a Batis 18mm on its way now

Well if you want 35, the Sony 35 2.8 is amazing for street photography. What's holding you back?

I must be the worst Sony owner. I'm more excited about third party lenses and AF adapters than actual Sony glass. I only have 2 native lenses by forced necessity and the rest are adapted!

Nothing, I was just speaking in general terms. Since so many people want a 35.
I use to be a 35 guy. Had that lens though, never did it for me. Think I was spoiled by the Sonnar (rx1rii) . Honestly the 40-45 works better for me gaping now a days. 18,24,40,85 works, the problem for me is 2 of them are Batis and although optically good I hate everything else about them. So for me if the 45 is as good as the 85 1.4 is I'd sell the 40mm in a heart beat. We'll see though. Not sure lightning will strike twice in a row for Samyang

I hope the new 45/1.8's manual focus 'feel' and linear coupling is similar to the Samyang 85/1.4 FE's. The latter is the first Samyang native that got fly-by-wire MF right imo. The Samyang 35/1.4 FE's MF ring is a bit "jumpy" when micro-adjusting it. They gotta get that AF noise down as well.

I see noticeable improvements in every Samyang lens release. The Samyang 85/1.4 FE is even weather sealed, so I'm confident the new 45mm will follow their 85mm footsteps unless they intend to price this one very low.

I might of got lucky on the 35 1.4 today.it seems far better than the last time I had it. Agree with Fred the new 85 is a world far better than previous models..

I need to figure out the AF adjustments on there dock. Nowhere does it say what going up or down means

On the Lens Station MF speed adjustment, I prefer "slower" for the 35/1.4 and "faster" for the 85/1.4. Although the latter was fine at "normal" as well.
