p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · focus stacked dandelion head

forty four slice focus stack of a dandelion head. Stacked using Helicon Focus 7 trial version.
I'm considering a purchase of the full license. So far I've gotten better results with it than photoshop cc. I'm leaning Helicon over Zerene because Helicon now allows loading raw files and saving as DNG. I haven't been able to get the Helicon plug in in LR to accept raw yet, when I select a stack to edit in Helicon, it converts my raw (NEF) files to tiff before importing which probably isn't the end of the world, but some of the retouching is better done in PSCC so keeping the raw format until the final edits are complete seems worthwhile to me. For now I'm using Helicon as a stand alone.
CC welcome.

Great image Chris. Have you tried the focus stacking feature in Affinity?
They have a 10 free trial period.

I don't know much about focus stacking, so...
Why so many frames? Does the camera automatically take that many on some kind of auto program? I would think 6-8 frames at even 2.8 would do it, but maybe not.
Does the program auto align all the frames if there's a slight movement, like from wind or even breathing near the subject?

The reason for so many frames is because the depth of field at such a close focus point is very tiny even at f8. I actually shot 100 frames and only used 44 of them. One thing I omitted from the original post was that I shot this image using a Cam Ranger and my Ipad Pro. I selected small focus changes to ensure there was enough focus overlap to eliminate in and out of focus areas in the final image. Using Cam Ranger also provided consistent focus changes from frame to frame which seems to help the software get it right without patches of out of focus flat color areas.
The software does auto align the individual frames but wind movement is a big problem so in this case I picked the dandelion and shot it indoors out of the wind. At higher magnifications any movement at all can be death to a sharp image- that includes vibration along with breezes.
