People who photograph in SoCal a lot probably have had a few bad experiences with aggressive, inconsiderate, selfish photographers who intrude into special places and ruin the photographic experience for everyone else. So, there is a reluctance to share these locations with others.
Examples are photographers who trample wildflower foregrounds to make sure no one else will photograph there; breaking fences to get access to private property, which causes the property owners to take actions against all photographers; driving offroad vehicles into sensitive areas, despoiling the area with tire tracks; scaring off prime wildlife, which ruins the day's shooting for the careful photographers. This is awful.
Well, I guess the "scaring off prime wildlife" is more toward the "stupid/ignorant" side of things, but the others are in the "truly awful human being" category.
