My solution to getting more detail and clarity is to take your single file (must be sharp and properly exposed) to Topaz AI Gigapixel and AI Clear:

That is exactly is what I was thinking when I said that HHHres at distance was not so impressive. If I can get a single shot looking close to HHHres with default PS settings, imagine if I worked on it carefully with Topazlabs software? Of course, one could do the same with the HHHres shot as well.

One could also just buy a D850 and shoot high res all the time, at whatever setting is necessary.

Or a Sony A7r III for a lightweight setup!

A local camera store was able to get me a loaner EM1X + 300/4 that I tested extensively over 2 days. I was primarily interested in testing the CAF and tracking for bird photography but the HHHRes really blew me away, combined with the best-in-class image stabilization. I was able to shoot HHHRes at 1/3 sec at 300mm and ISO 3200 and do as well as my D850 on a tripod. The CAF... not so much. Other than for demanding action the EM1X is an excellent camera.
