p.1 #1 · p.1 #1 · Peregrine Falcon

These were taken the day I was photographing the large flock of Dunlin at Jones Beach, Long Island, NY. For the flight photos the falcon's air speed matched the wind speed so it was over me for quite some time. For a few seconds it was looking down at me yet I did not capture that as it was while I was hitting the quick release and roiling over onto my back. Eventually the gust let up and it landed a few hundred feet from me and I slowly moved in to take the portrays with the ocean in the background.

Love #5, BTW. Seems that it is the sharpest of the set. Is it because you were closest at that point? Or because the camera got just a tad bit more spot on? Or maybe something else?

Very pretty shots Morris with that nice, soft color palette. I really like the last one but then I'm a sucker for eye contact

Nice work, Morris! Those are speedy birds and often fly very high over here to get a good shot.
BTW, did you have to lift shadows quite a bit on these? Seeing a bit more noise than usual in your photos.

Thank you David,
It may be the angle of the light casting a bit more shadow as the sun was obscured by a cloud for that one.

Thank you Rinald,
I feel the bird was looking just to my right for the last one. That did provide a nice angle

Thank you Amit,
Yes for the first two. They are cropped and ISO 1600. I may have been lazy when I processed them not applying noise reduction to the background. I'm not noticing it so your monitor and/or browser may help you see it

Beautiful peregrine series, Morris! I especially like the perched photos contrasting the textures of the wood and the softness of the feathers!

Thank you Gene,

I had not noticed that contrast yet did enjoy seeing the detail in the wood
