I was interested in the original till I shot it and started processing the files. That sensor was noticeably behind current Sony/Nikon/Fuji sensors. Files were fragile, highlights blew easily.

If the Q has a better sensor, not just more res, I'll be very interested.

I wanted to love the current one, but just couldn't get there. Bigger files and more resolution won't temp me either. It was just too wide for me. The focal length & camera size made me move on. Sticking with the RX1R II for the time being.

I think with high mega pixel and weather sealing. with 47M, this make different frame crop such as 35/50/75
truly meaningful.

This seems a very nice single camera setup on the market for users who prefer simple control and better ergonomics with bigger body.

This is definitely a competitive product. I think it will be even more successful than Q that many consider one of better Leica product.

Not at all if it sports a 28mm lens. Now put a 35 or 50mm f/1.4 on there, and it could be interesting - but only if it doesn't weigh the same as a Leica M. The Q is already quite large for a "small" fixed lens camera.

Have been using the current Q for three years. I like the camera the way it is and see no need to change.

Had my Q for quite some time and, Leica does tempt with the the weather sealing and OLED EVF . But i think my current Q should keep me taking beautiful images.

I don't find the files fragile as long as I don't pull the shadows more than a few stops or grossly over or under-expose the shot. Highlight recovery is not as good as my GFX, but I've never noticed it being an issue as long as I expose the shot well. And even the GFX with it's 14-stops of DR, if you pull the shadows enough the files still look "burnt"/over-processed to me. The only way to really do justice to a very wide dynamic range scene is with ND grads or multiple-exposure blends. Hopefully one day, but not today.

But like you, I am still quite interested an improved sensor, especially with the higher megapixel count. I often find myself preferring f/1.7 at MFD and cropping to 50mm over using the Macro mode, which is limited to f2.8.

Well, it depends on tolerances and what you deem acceptable. And honestly, for some scenes, it really doesn't matter. But I find myself maxing out the DR on my a7r2, and I often can't or don't want to carry a tripod and filters.

But what you can objectively state is the Q has appreciably less usable DR and mailability in post than the competing makers I mentioned. It's not saying anything wild that modern Leica sensors have been behind the makers I mentioned:

Pushing a file 4/5 stops versus being able to push a file 2/3 stops and getting usable results is a big deal to many shooters.

I appreciate what you're saying, and I will welcome a Q2 with wider dynamic range. I just never found myself blowing the highlights on the Q unless I wasn't paying attention.

I hear you. On of my favorite cameras in the Sony a900 I guess this sensor is the same as the new s1r, though I am not sure if that's a Tower Jazz or Sony sensor or other. Seems the same res as the D850, so maybe if we are lucky we'll get that type of IQ.

An example of the Q dynamic range – a bit over-processed to show the shadow recovery. I don't remember what firmware update it was – 2.0 or later I think – that improved shadow noise and eliminated the banding issue.

Are you serious, with an image that under exposed do you really think you can pull back that much and come up with something usable?

I guess his point was that shadow recovery is possible with the Q and is not limited to 3/4 of IL as stated somewhere in this thread.

Yes, thanks. If the other person had read the thread for context they might have better understood the intent.
