That was what the bright orange beaks of the Black Oystercatchers reminded me of when I first saw this type of bird.

They are very adept at using their bills to pry between the rocks in search mostly for small clams, which they are also very adept at opening and eating the insides.

Do some of the Black Oystercatchers have the unusual shaped pupils that the American Oystercatchers have?

Great shots of one of my favorite birds. They are very noisy. Interesting that their population from Alaska to Baja maybe only 10,000 birds.

Very nice images of images. Don't believe I've ever seen one of these but if I do I'll sure be able to identify it through viewing your photographs.
