I was just about to pick up a 16-35 F4 for landscape and night time astro. I guess I will hold off until the Tamron comes out.

Is there any chance that this lens is internal focusing (rather than via barrel extension?) The 17-28 doesn't appear to have the same "lip" that the 28-75 has in that side-by-side?

If it has IF then this would be my new street lens!

EXACTLY!
I hate all that zooms which does not focus internally ...

Scaled to another Tamron lens, the size has to be under 10cm:

that would probably be only at 28mm
if it is less than 500 gr and with acceptable coma control my 16-35 GM might be in trouble

Huh, I didn't notice that before, but it's a good point. It does look like the 17-28 may be an internal zoom. I would be very impressed if this is the case.

Very nice indeed. I got the 12-24 when I put my kit together, and almost instantly regretted it just for the lack of filters...didn't think I'd need em but it turns out I did. I use it from time to time when I want to go superwide, but in the back of my mind I've been thinking of picking up a 16-35 f4. This might be an even better option. Hopefully it's priced around $800. If so it'll be on my list once early reviews hit and any bugs are worked out.

Just out of curiousity, what do so many people use filters for? I only would use a filter for a waterfall in bright light... I am also in love with wide shots, so the 12-24 and the 10 are invaluable to me.

Polarizer to reduce glare on water and foliage. Neutral Density filters to reduce exposure to emphasize water movement.

Would the water movement shots be handheld?

A mirrorless design for a short flange distance allows lenses to be smaller at the wider range but once FL reaches 35mm, mirrorless designs starts to lose the benefit of being more compact.
I predict that just like with any other zoom, the 28mm FL won't be as good as the others in the range. It could perform very well at 21mm compared to the CV 21 or even the Loxia 21/2.8.

Rendering is another story and I personally dislike the popular 28-75/2.8 for this reason alone. This is very subjective though.

That is intetesting. I would have been fine if it were a bit larger in exchange for a bit more reach, perhaps closer to the size of the 28-75.

I agree that there are aspects of the 28-75's rendering that are not spectacular. The bokeh can be harsh under certain circumstances and circles become half moons towards the edges, but in other conditions I don't find the bokeh to be all that objectionable. Meanwhile, shooting into the sun provokes all kinds of madness. It's not my favorite lens, but warts and all, it is my most used lens, especially when traveling. I'm really hoping this little guy has better flare resistance and at least useable sun stars.

Not sure anyone caught this but interesting

Tamron has announced three new full-frame lenses slated to launch in the middle of 2019: an SP 35mm F1.4 Di USD and 35-150mm F2.8-4 Di VC OSD for DSLRs, as well as an ultra-wide 17-28mm F2.8 Di III RXD for Sony E-mount cameras.

There’s our 35 maybe. I tested the 35 for Canon awhile back. Very sharp even wide open

It looks like it will compete with the Sigma 35/1.4 Art:

Tried searching for my review on the Canon version and came up empty on my search. Tried several years too. Might be worth a read. Not sure it is the same optical formula but could be interesting for sure. I do remember quite good . Very modern looking lens from what I remember. It was decent size alone with adapter kind of big but in native mount .Hmmm

I’m testing my memory it may have been a 1.8 back than.

From the way that’s written, is the 35 1.4 also for DSLRs or is it going to be available for E mount?

I think it's only Canon and Nikon mount. Can be used on E-mount with adapter.

Sorry I may have confused things here I tested the 35mm 1.8 in Canon mount
Here
https://www.adorama.com/tm3518eos.html

But this is a 35 1.4 according to the announcement and Sony FE mount. At least the way I’m reading it. So a new lens. Yahooooo I say we need one. As Fred mentioned it could be the size of the Sigma 35. Have to see when the specs come

I’m just happy something is coming in 35

Unfortunately the 35 1.4 is not for Sony

DPR has confirmed it is internally focusing. Pretty great news.
