Hi Karl. Thanks for commenting. They are one species, Northern Flicker. The Red shafted is in the west. Male has red mustache, salmon pink or red under tail-wing and no red patch on back of head. The Yellow shafted is in taiga and eastern part of North america. Male has black mustache, yellow under wing-tail and red patch on the back of head. This bird is a combination of both. It has red mustache and red patch and mirky yellow under wing-tail. It was shot through double pane tinted glass, so is soft on focus.
