This is one of those cotingas that have a particular call, even more attractive than its two-toned coloration!

This male was making its high-pitched calls from an exposed branch in a windy morning in Alajuela, Costa Rica.

I have seen wonderful images of this bird perching but never in flight so I tried both

Hi Ron,

Those are called "wattles" and are part of the male´s ornamentation to attack females (or at least are used when displaying!)

I've heard of this bird and it has near legendary status....wonderful photos of this really unique bird.
